Q. Housewarming Gift Registry: I recently was invited to a friend’s housewarming party, with the invitation detailing where they were registered. My question is twofold, the first part being, is this a new trend? And secondly, if so, is it a bit presumptuous to assume that guests would be asking for this information, as nontraditional as it may seem, in the first place? where they were registeredとはどういうことでしょうか?あと、as nontraditional as it may seemの意味も教えてください。

1。where they were registeredとはどういうことでしょうか? あと、as nontraditional as it may seemの意味も教えてください。

Among the many buzzwords we hear in Japan at the beginning of the 21st century, two of the most common are “freeter” and “NEET.” These terms refer to people who either work in temporary jobs (freeters) or those that have no employment, education or training (NEETs). Although freeters are working, most people have a negative impression when they hear these words. One of the images that many foreigners have of Japanese people is that they are diligent. How can it be then that this new breed of people, who appear to have a casual attitude towards work, or are even lazy, came to exist? The answer to this question is not as simple as it may seem.

Surprising ( ) seem, the Bible is still the world's best-seller. (1) may it (2) however it may (3) as it may (4) does it Astonishing ( ) seem, he is the very person that you have been looking for. (1) so it may (2) as it may (3) may it (4) does it

Words appeal to the emotions of people as well as to their intellect. Some words soothe one's feelings, but others arouse dislike or hatred. The first settlers who came to New England were glad that in this new land they were without masters. They despised master because it reminded them of a social order they hoped they were through with forever. They found an excellent way to get along without the word. In Dutch baas means "master." The early English settlers in New York borrowed this word in the form of boss and used it instead of master. It quickly became popular all over the country and is still in everyday use. It should be noticed however, that boss has never been able to secure anything but colloquial standing in the language. It is quite useful among friends in familiar conversation and writings of an informal sort. When it is used of one in political control of a district or situation it is slang.

Most children do not like to hear stories about when they were younger. Infancy is not a blessed state to them, but something to be grown out of and escaped from as quickly as possible. To them, their littleness, helplessness, and clumsiness is not cute, but humiliating, and they want to be reminded of it as little as possible. They don't mind, once in a while, if we don’t overdo it, our telling them that they were very nice when they were little, but that is about as much about it as they want to hear. Whatever mistakes they have made, in their growing and learning, are best forgotten. 上の文章の that is about as much about it as they want to hear.

・theyの場合 personality researchers have attempted to devise formal methods for describing and measuring personality, which go beyond our everyday use of trait terms in thee ways. first,【they】 seek to reduce the potential set of trait… ・suchの場合 one certainly has to represent the transition from sober reasoning to phantastic attempts to solve a problem as a transition to processes within irreal levels. but are we dealing in these cases with locomotions of the person as a whole? if the person were at each moment within only one level of reality, one would have to represent him as two-dimensional. However, 【such a thesis】 is open to doubt…

They like "a", however they like the addition of more colour (the heart) in "b". If you would like to add a little bit more red / colour similar to this in "a" please go ahead - just as long as it is not a heart shape which they did not like. 特に最後の 「just as long as it is not a heart shape which they did not like.」

Today's kids seem to be too busy, going from one extracurricular activity to another. As they lead such organized daily lives, they become "programmed". This may discourage them from being creative and inventive. As the old saying goes,"all work and no play make Jack a dull boy".
