やや古い英語で、 Thought it is bad, の意味を Bad as it is は表します。 （十分悪いんだけど、）一番悪いのは～。 go down the tubues は「管を下るように流れ落ちる」 から「破産する、倒産する」 だから、credit は「信用」というより、「預金」でしょう。 彼の銀行預金は底をついた。

「～することは良いことだ」なんていう表現はよくすると思うのですが、たとえば「歩くことは良いことだ」なんて言いたい場合に、単純に“It is good to walk.”と言う事は可能でしょうか？辞書でgoodを引くと、it is … to～構文の用例がほとんどありませんでした。同じように「～することは悪いことだ」を“It is bad to ～”と言えるかどうか自信がありません。 it is … to～構文で、…に使っていい単語とそうでない単語の目安などがあれば宜しくお願いします。
