> 上に見る通り、 was all happiness 構文の基本線は正しいのです。 なるほど、そう言う事ですか。前の回答では長くなるので触れませんでしたが、表現としてはあり得ます。URLでは'happiness'とクォーテーションでわかりやすくしてますが、文としては修辞的に、 「彼女は全く幸せそのものだった。」 もっと硬く訳すと、「彼女は'幸せ'と言うものを全て体現していた」。 似たような修辞的な表現で、 He was all the happiness. で「彼は全く幸せ(と言うもの)そのものだった。」と言う言い方もありと思います。 ただ、質問にあったように、He was happy. の様な一般的な表現で形容詞を名詞に置き換えるのは無理があります。

言い換えられないでしょう。副詞を除くと、 He was happiness. 日本語に直訳すると「彼は幸せだった」で一見正しそうですが、ここの"幸せ”は名詞で、彼が”幸せ”と言う状態を示すものではなくて、”幸せ”と言う一般の名詞とイコールになってしまいます。 He felt slight/a little happiness yesterday. または、 He had ... ならOKと思いますが、allはここではあいません。またa little をlittleとしても良いですが、意味は「彼は昨日ほとんど幸せを感じることが無かった」と言う否定形なので、sligly 「わずかな、ほんの少しの」に対してもニュアンスが変わります。
