whatever は名詞節では「～するものは何でも」 副詞節では譲歩節となって「何が～しようとも」となるわけですが、 「～でも」には違いなく、英英辞典ではともに no matter what と説明されています。 日本人的には前者は名詞節としてまとまるように anything that ～と説明され、 後者のみ no matter what ～と説明されます。 だから、日本語的には「それが何であれ」的な訳をしても問題なく通じるのですが、 英語の構造上、そんな挿入的なものなどで説明できっこなく、 強調構文であれば完全に文法的に説明できます。 予備校の講師なんかだと間違いなくそう説明するでしょう。 強調構文で強調する部分が疑問詞となると、 What is it that you like?「あなたが好きなものは何ですか？」 のような形になり、 これが間接疑問となると what it is that you like となります。 この what が whatever となると、 whatever it is that you like 「あなたが好きなものは何でも」 強調構文でなければ whatever you like です。 強調構文は it is that を取り除いても英語が成り立つ （語順は除いて）と言われますが、 wh- は前に出ることから、結果的に語順を含めて it is that を取り除いても完全に成り立っています。 we have the need to express このような express の目的語が欠けたようになるのは 目的格の関係代名詞の特徴ですが、 強調構文も構造上は関係代名詞と同じです。 ちょうど最近、goo さんの方で強調構文の例がありました。 https://oshiete.goo.ne.jp/qa/9345554.html こちらも、not があり、今回も may be となっています。 これを強調構文の元の英語に含めようとするとちょっと厄介です。 強調構文というのはあくまでも説明上のものであり、 もとの英語があって、その強調構文というのではありません。 いきなりそういう英語がある、と思うべきで、 it is ... that という表現を使っており、 その is の部分が否定になったり、may be になったりすることができるわけです。

「どんな仕事につこうと決めても、成功しようと思うなら、人よりは少し良い仕事をしなければならない」という英作文についてですが、 Whatever job you may choose to do,you must do it a little better than others if you will succeed in it. で大丈夫でしょうか？題名にも書きましたが、敢えてif節中においてwillを使いましたが、あくまで意志のwillですからおかしくないとは思うんです。ただ入試試験などにおいて減点されたりしないかなどと考えるとちょっと自信が無いので、アドバイスお願いします。
