こういう訳にあるようなくだけた感じでなく、かなり堅い表現です。 数十年前の高校英語ではやや堅い英語として Though S is 形（a 名）,「～だけれども」の書き換えで 形（a なく名）as S is, というのがありました。 この as はこの形でだけ「～だけれども」という意味合いになります。 前後によってはこれでも「～なので」ともなり得ます。 as 自体にこのような意味があるわけではありません。 もともと、as 形 as という「同じくらい」であり、 Being as 形 as S is で「S が実際そうであるのと同じくらい～であるけれども（なので）」 という分詞構文で、though あるいは理由の意味に感じられます。 この分詞構文で being が省略されたのが今回の英語です。 そして、特にイギリスでは最初の as も省略され、 その英語をイギリス英語がまだ（やや）主流だった昔はよく習っていました。 アメリカでは As 形 as S is の形で用いられます。 ここでもしばしば質問になっていましたが、最近はそうでもないようです。 そして、この As 形 as S is, ～の質問をよく見かけるようになりました。

こんにちは、いつもお世話になります。 Bruce Foryce と Marielle Renssen著のMarathon Runner's HANDBOOKという本を読んでいてタイトルのような文構造が難しい文に出会いました。 長距離走に必要な食事の取り方を解説したページ（８２ページ）より引用します。 It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat as is necessary to fuel their particular workload. 筋が通る文として理解するには「走者の個々のトレーニングにエネレルギーを補給する必要があるために、走者にとってたんぱく質、炭水化物、脂質を含むバランスのとれた食事をすることは重要です。」というような事をいっていると思うのですが、 この文は、 ・It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet with 「as much protain, carbohydrate and fat as」 is necessary to fuel their particular workload.という区切りでしょうか？ そうするとタイトルのような『as much ～ as ・・・「・・・と同量の」の・・・の部分が無い』ように」見えます。 それとも、 ・It is important for runner to follow a balanced diet 「with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat」 as (it) is necessary to fuel their particular workload.という「（先行する数詞に呼応して）aｓ much＝～と同量」であり、as muchはfollow a balanced dietにかかるのでしょうか？ ニュアンスとしては、「a balanced diet with as much protain, carbohydrate and fat バランスの取れた食事と同量の、たんぱく質、炭水化物、脂質を含む」みたいな感じでしょうか？ どうも文構造が掴めません 。 参考までに前後の文を転記します。 The key for successful marathon runner is balance, common sense and restraint. not so much as について、例えば He is not so much a scholar as a journalist. という単純な文なら日本語訳の型が定まっているので、なんとか分からないこともないのですが、下に挙げた文についてはbutの後の構造が分かりません。解説お願い致します。 The corporation is not so much a "natural" individual, in this view, but is rather constructed legally and politically as an entity that creates social goods.

英国人に質問したら、返ってきたメールの一部ですが、うまく訳すことができません。特にasが。 以下の文を訳して、asの訳し方も教えてください。 I am not 100% right on what I say as there are exceptions and variations to most rules. It is always better to give the exact context of the sentences, as sentences on their own have no real meaning.
