commonly-used と説明してしまうと元も子もありませんが、 本来、used で「使われる」という意味では１語でも前置しません。 １語なら前置と決まっているわけでなく、前置の場合は他と区別する特別な意味になります。 すなわち、ただ「使われた」なら１語でも後置。 前置すると「中古の」という意味になります。 しかし、commonly のような語で修正が入ることで ただ「使われる」のでなく、「一般的に使われる」となることで 前置が可能になります。 こういう副詞＋分詞でひとつのまとまりとなって前置になることがあり、 こうするまとまりになることで、１語で前置しないような分詞でも前置できます。 たとえば、the killed man で「殺された人」とはなりません。 the murdered man なら可。 しかし、the brutally killed man という言い方は可能です。

目的語や前置詞句を伴う場合はおっしゃるとおり後置されますが、分詞に直接かかる副詞の場合は併せて前置することも普通です。 １）」to replace commonly used fossil fuels such as oil and coal. ２）to replace fossil fuels commonly used such as oil and coal. 意味は同じだと思いますが、２）の方がちょっとぎこちない気がします。

Later, the microscope was developed using principles similar to the telescope. 「後になると、望遠鏡に似た原理を用いて顕微鏡が発展した」 このusingについてです。分詞構文と考えると主節主語が顕微鏡なので (beinig) used となるはずで、違うと思われます。 分詞の後置修飾と考えれば良いのですが、 間にwas developed という 動詞を挟んで後置修飾が可能なのかという疑問もあります。 どう解釈すれば良いかご教授下さい。

ある程度、名詞＋having been＋現在・過去分詞 と言う形の後置修飾された句を見ることがあります。 実際、googleで引いても、 "a * having been " の検索結果 約 1,230,000 件 と言うように、かなりの数ヒットします。 しかし、自分の感覚としては、これは、名詞＋関係代名詞＋have/had＋been＋現在・過去分詞 という、関係代名詞を使った形の方が自然な感覚があります。 自然な英語と言う観点から見た場合、どちらが自然なのでしょうか。それとも、どちらも文脈によって自然であると言うことでしょうか。

Brazil has been a pioneer in this field. It makes the biofuel ethanol from sugar cane. Partly motivated by the oil crisis of the 1970s and by a desire to reduce its dependence on oil, Brazil invested heavily in biofuels and incentivized their use, particularly in motor cars. In 2005, more flexi-fuel vehicles (cars that can run on ethanol, gasoline or a mixture of the two) were sold in Brazil than purely gas driven ones.

ちょっと練習してきたので以前よりはよくなってると思います。また環境についての自由英作文です。 「今日の環境問題について１００語程度の英語で書きなさい」 The disadvantage of technological advances is that they have caused various environmental problems. One of the greatest inventions is automobile, but now automobile exhaust provides one of the major causes of pollution. For example, it contributes to acid rain and this kills many trees in many areas of the world. And the burning fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas gives off too much carbon dioxide. This leads to the global warming. In reality, it seems to be the most serious problems we face. It is high time all countries in the world worked together to save our earth by reducing the greenhouse effect. 細かい部分も見ていただけると大変助かりますが、何せ長いのでまずは文章の論理展開がつながっているかを見ていただけたらと思います。あとは冠詞が自信ないのでそこも見ていただけると幸いです。 よろしくお願いします！
