追記 石臼のところでかたく拳をにぎる →石臼ですら手に入れようとする 転じて、少々の金でも、ひどく固執する という意味らしいです。 ことわざでもないようで、作中に出てくる 独特な表現だと思います。

yightfisted= tight with his money. tightfistedのミスプリ？ でもgrindstone がなぜhard work なのかその根拠がわかりません。 言葉の歴史的背景や、理由などがあるのではないでしょうか？ at the grindstone なんですよね。 at the がついているのです。 宜しくお願い致します。

a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone ＝ 少々の金でも、ひどくそれに固執する という意味らしいです。（私も知りませんでした。）

朝日新聞の英語ニュースサイトに http://www.asahi.com/english/Herald-asahi/TKY200811190314.html 昨日起きた厚生労働省元幹部殺傷事件について 記事が掲載されているのですが、 タイトルの訳がよくわかりません。 「Security tight with killer at large」 ですから、 Security＝警備 tight＝厳しい killer＝犯人（殺人者） at large＝逃走中 ということなのでしょうが、 「with」の部分が意味がわからず、 文章全体でどうやくせばよいのかがわかりません。 よろしくお願いします！

podcastのスクリプトの一部です。 一部だけでは、意味がわからないかもしれませんので、少々長めにコピーいたします。 タバコの銘柄にはよく知られたiconがありますが、Camelというタバコのicon "Joe Camel"について書かれたものです。 Joe Camel was a cartoon. He was a cartoon “camel,” an animal, who was drawn with something over his head that we would call a “bandana,” and he had sunglasses, and, of course, he was smoking a cigarette. The idea was that Joe Camel was cool, that he was popular, that people accepted him. この中で二つ目のセンテンスに who was drawn with something over his head that we would call a “bandana,” とあります。 who was drawn with something は、「何かに(で？)描かれた(マンガのらくだ)」 という意味だと思うのですが、 その後の over his head that 以下の意味がよくわかりません。 「バンダナをした、何かに描かれたマンガのらくだ」ということでしょうか。 ちなみに、Joe Camelの画像をググッたのですが、バンダナを着けている絵は無かったです。 よろしくお願いいたします。
