下の英文でなぜitがshouldの後に来ているのかがいまいち分かりません。 文の構成を解説していただけないでしょうか。 Russia would likely veto the request should it come to a Security Council vote. よろしくお願いいたします。

should it come = if it should come ですから(下記の、「倒置による if の省略」の例です） http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/chick/egu/071-080/egu080.html 「もし安全保障理事会の投票、と言うことになれば、ロシアは恐らくこの要請に、拒否権を発動するものと思われる。」でしょう。

この『should』は倒置法で使われ、その意味は実現性の少ない事柄に対する仮定・譲歩を表しています。 Russia would likely veto the request should it come to a Security Council vote. 恐らく安保理の議題に上ることはないと思わますが、万が一上申されたとしても、ロシアは拒否権を行使してその要求を撥ねのけてしまうでしょう。

ifの省略ってやつです。 If it should come to a Security Council vote.のifを省略すると、shouldを倒置して、 should it come to a Security Council vote.となります。

文脈型単語集「ダイアローグ１８００」を使って勉強中です。 （内容はいいのですが、文法の解説は全くのっていないのです） この本文の中に 「２週間ホテルに泊まるより、２日入院するほうが高い」 ↓ 「it cost more to stay in the hospital for two days than it would to stay in the most luxurious hotel a fortonight」 という１文がありました。 なぜこの「it would」が必要なんでしょうか？ 「もしとまることがあったとしたら」という仮定法なのかと思いましたが、 wouldに続いてto不定詞が来る形をあまり見慣れず、すこし戸惑い気味です。
