Or are there?の意味を教えてください
今パイレーツオブカリビアンの洋書を読んでるのですが、冒頭の最後で、 「There aren't really any ghosts. Or are there?」 というフレーズが出てきます。 亡霊がいるかもしれないし、いないかもしれない、と言う意味ですか？ （の場合どうしてハテナが最後につくんですか？） 何となく言いたいことは分かるのですが、上手く和訳することができません。 どなたか教えて下さい...

No. 2 です。ちょっと訂正します。Or are there? のthere は主語ではないので、or [be 動詞] [主語] ? という書き方は変でしたね。or ...? とでもしておきます。また、Or are there? も or am I? も be 動詞を強く発音します。

第一章の一文に But there are no ghosts,sir,in any country-not even in famous old British families. と書いてあったのですが、old British familiesとは熟語なのでしょうか。 ストーリーとは関係ないようなので、あるいはイギリスの有名な言い伝えの事なのでしょうか？

友人から届いたメールです。 I saw in many japanese animes, and mangas, that the characters are having a cold, and they are geting so weak from them, that they can't go to school, or work, and can faint easy. And I don't really get it. If I have a cold, yes, I can feel really ill, but I wont faint from something like that. I had inflammation of the lungs too, and was still going to work, or to school. So, my question is, can it be, that in Japan you aren't immune to a simple cold? Something else is bothering me from typical scenes in Japanese manga. If the caracters sees something sexy, he / or she gets a nose-bleed. Is high blood-pressure such a problem there? 井上一馬著の英語できますか？で勉強しています。 この中のLesson10でnot anyを no に変換するexerciseがあります。 複数形の否定文がnoをつかって単数形になっていたりして頭がごちゃごちゃします。 下記にexerciseの回答を示しますが、基本的な考え方があったら教えてください。1は単数を単数、3は複数形を単数形へ、4と6は複数形を複数形へ変換しています。 また、否定形を複数で表すことに日本語から考えると違和感があるのですが、このことについても、考え方があったら教えてください。 1.There isn't any desert in this country. →There is no desert inthis country. 3.There aren't any rules without exceptions. →There is no rule without exeptions. 4.There weren't any smart guys in this class. →There were no smart guys in this class. 6.There aren't no new messages for you. →There are no new messages for you.

Illegal aliens, Americans say, are taking our jobs away from us. They are increasing our taxes by filling welfare rolls. But are these complaints really justified? Tom Roach says no, they aren't. 最後のaren'tの後には何が省略されていますか？ 訳は「彼らはそうではない」と書かれていたので taking,increasingだと思うのですが。。 ただ、私はtheyがthese complaints、その後ろの省略は justifiedの方がいいかと思うのですが、どうですか？
