size for size の意味

"size for size, they are capable of letting in far more light than diurnal ones. この文中のsize for sizeは「同じ大きさの比較で」という意味のようですが、つまり、A for A は「同じAの比較で」という使い方でいいのでしょうか。 A for Aの使い方についてご回答よろしくお願いいたします。

A for Aは『Aに対してAで』ということで、割とよく使われるsize for size は貴方の言われるように『同じ大きさの比較では』となると思います。 Hybrid cars, size for size, can travel much longer than conventional cars with the same amount of gas. 『同じ大きさでは同じ量のガソリンでハイブリッドカーが従来の車に比べ長距離走る。』 このsize for sizeと同じ部類には word for word, line for lineなどが思いつきますが、『おなじAの比較では』とは違い、『Aに対してAで』のニュアンスです。 I translated the news into English word for word. 『私はそのニュースを逐一英語に訳した』。
