私は(a)を選ぶところですが、(b)も正解なのですね。 で、(c),(d)がだめなところは、たぶん I live in the house につづけて、to the opposite side と言わないことや、to the opposite side につづけてfrom the street といわないからだと思います。 in the street といいます。 なぜそう言わないのかといわれると、日本語だと「通りからの反対側へ（の）」と言えそうな気もしなくもないですが、一般的には日本語でも「通りの反対側の（家に住んでいます）」という自然な言い方があるように、英語の慣用表現として、(a),(b)が適切だからです。 私は用法しかお伝えできませんが、このあたりは英文法の解説に詳しい方におゆずりします。 The party was , ( ) , a signal success . ですが、カンマで区切られた区画は、ちょうど日本語でも（）で区切られた文のように、それをとっても、文が成り立つものです。このカンマで区切られた文の場合、そのカンマの間は同格名詞と呼ばれる、カンマの前（もしくは後ろのケースも）の名詞の言い換えができるもので、なにかの問題で出された文であれば、この同格名詞の用法を知っているか、と問われているのだと思います。 同格名詞だとすると、答えの中では名詞として表現されているのは、3 a whole lot が答えではないでしょうか。 他は、名詞以上のものでよけいなものがついています（asとかonとかinとか）。 文法問題は、意味で解答しなくても答えが合う場合がけっこうあります。 違う答えでしたら、すいません。

遅くなりました。月曜はもう早くに寝てしまいました。 はじめにお詫びをしなければならないのは ２つめの問題で hole となっているのを wholeとしなければならなかった事です。すいませんでした。それで正解は両方とも B です。 そして１の a は 「to 以下がなければ正解」とかいてました。
