オーディションとコンペティションは別です。 オーディションは終わりました コンペティションはまだこれからです。 過去形、現在形、未来形を厳密に使い分けていると見るべきです。 １） she doesn't sing good as he does. （終わった）オーディションを聞いて彼らの実力を判断する と、「彼は上手いが、彼女は彼ほど上手いわけではない」。 ２） She will hold him back in the competition. （今後行われる）コンペティションでは、彼女が彼の前進 を阻害する事になるだろう。 ３） 意訳すれば、彼は上手いが彼女がそれ程でもないのでコン ペティションでは彼女が彼の足を引っ張ることになるだろう と言う意味だと思います。

She did not marry him just because he was rich. の意味は１通りですか？ 背景： She did not marry him because he was rich. 上の例では not は１）直後の動詞、２）Because節 を否定すると考えられます。（２通り） １）彼女は彼が金持ちだったので結婚しなかった。 ２）彼女が結婚したのは彼が金持ちだったからではない。 しかし、いくつかのWebサイトで She did not marry him just because he was rich. のようにbecauseの前にjust, simply等を入れると２）の意味だけとなり、１）の意味ではなくなると指摘しています。 私はjust, simply等を前に入れたところで２つの意味にとれることに変わりないと思うのですが。 １）彼女はただ単に彼が金持ちだったので結婚しなかった。 ２）彼女が結婚したのはただ単に彼が金持ちだったからではない。 いかがでしょうか？

父親に先立たれたときに、母親は子供に対してどんな態度をとればよいかということを書いたもので、 The parent who does not openly share her grief does her child harm.By isolating the child, she deprives him of the parent he so desperately needs at time. という文があるのですが、 does not openly share のnotは、openlyとshareのどちらにかかるのでしょうか？私の訳では、「悲しみを包み隠さずに共有しない親は子供に危害を加える」となっていますが、要するに悲しみを共有すべきだということでしょうか？そして、第二文のshe deprives him of the parent とは、どういうことを言っているのでしょう？あと、he soのsoはdeprives him of the parent をさしているんですかねぇ・・・。

She doesn't express her emotions as much as he does. as much as he doesは、as much as he doesn'tなら、「彼同様、彼女も感情を抑えた」となるような気がしますが、ここはhe doesでいいのでしょうか？これも省略の一種なのでしょうか？よろしくお願い致します。

「And now he's going to marry her, you see if he doesn't,and ～～～～.」 「 Amanda will do it herself.You see if she doesn't.」という二つの文が、同じ本の中の別々のページに載っているのですが、うまく訳せません。 「you see if he doesn't」「You see if she doesn't.」の部分が、どうも決まった言い回しのようなのですが、どう訳せばいいのでしょうか。 どなたかお分かりの方よろしくお願いします。

I am having an issue with our 13-year-old bichon frise and am hoping that you can point me in the right direction. We adopted our dog when he was 1 year old, and he was house-trained. Until recently, our work schedule allowed us to walk him three times a day. Midsummer, my husband changed jobs, and we now are able to walk him only twice a day. It had not been an issue until recently. For the past two months, he has been going in the house nearly every day while we are at work. We have consulted the vet, and our dog was medically cleared. The vet suggested we sedate him during the day with a mild sedative, saying that should decrease the accidents. I have a few issues. I do not believe that it's right to sedate our dog just because he cannot hold it any longer. ここでのhold itはどのような意味でしょうか？よろしくお願いします

回答をありがとうございます。 オーデションとコンペティションは、別なのですか？ ネットで調べたのですが、よく意味がわかりませんでした。 ２の訳を見て、hold him backの部分がようやくストンときました。 後ろに引き戻すような感じだとは思っていたのですが、前進を阻害するという訳がピッタリですね。すっきりしました☆
