以下は、11月28日のthe Japan Timesの社説です。 (1)A surge in U.S. production means that "by around 2020, the United States is projected to become the largest global oil producer." (2)Credit the rapid development of hydraulic fracturing, usually referred to as "fracking," and horizontal drilling, which permit the exploitation of previously unavailable hydrocarbon reserves such as oil shale and shale gas. (3)As a result of these two technologies, U.S. oil production is expected to peak in 2020 at 11.1 million barrels a day, a marked increase from the 8.1 million barrels a day produced last year. この部分は、アメリカが２０２０年ころまでに世界最大の産油国になること、その要因は水圧破砕や水平採掘法という技術が可能となったこと、この２つの技術による具体的な産油量が述べられています。 質問は、(2)の文法的解説及び訳です。 creditは他動詞、以下「,」（カンマ）までは目的語と解し、勧誘文としても適訳が浮かびません。 名詞と考えbeingを補って、分詞構文としてもcreditの後にforなどの前置詞もなく、不適切です。 どなたか、解説をお願いします。

"credit"は、他動詞として「～のおかげだと思う」という意味があるので、"Suffice (it) to say that"と同様に、命令形として解釈すれば良さそうです。"Credit the rapid development"に対して「～のおかげだと思いたい」ぐらいに訳せばどうでしょう。 余談ですが、日本でも「例えば～したとせんかい！」というような方言的な表現があります。

今、英語の長文を読んでいて、その長文の問を解いているのですが、答え方がわかりません。 How much of our normal daily requirement of water comes from metabolic production? という問なのですが、その答えとなる部分が Metabolic production of water only accounts for 11.5 per cent of the normal requirement of 2.5 litres a day. これは、どう答えればいいのでしょうか？ It comes 11.5 per cent of the normal requirement of 2.5 litres a day. かと、思ったのですが・・・。 わかる方、よろしくお願いします。

(1)A cost of ￡10million to finding ways to stop large IT (2)A cost of ￡10 million to investigate ways of preventing large IT これらの2つの文章は意味は同じのようですが文法がよくわかりません。 特に(1)はなぜ、toの後に動詞の原型ではなくingがつくのか。 To stopが不定詞なのだからでしょうか？ それでもfinding の前にtoがある意味がわかりません。 もし不定詞のtoではないとすればなぜ(2)は to investigate になるのか (Investigating waysにならないのか 不定詞だと仮定したら(2)はすんなりわかるのですが、to finding の前のtoが付くのがわかりません。) どなたか宜しくお願いします。
