メンタルヘルスに関する英文ニュース記事の中で以下のような文があります。 Maybe children think about suicide in part of because of depression, but also maybe due to other reasons not related to depression that are not affected by antidepressants. 私なりに考えた訳が以下のようなものです。 「おそらく、子供たちはうつ病のためにある程度自殺を考えることはあるだろう。しかし、うつ病と関係ない他の理由や、抗うつ剤によって引き起こされた訳ではない理由によってもまた、自殺を考えるだろう。」 疑問に思ったのは、「but also～」からの文です。 that以下がどこにかかっているのかがよく分かりません＞＜ that節のbe動詞がareなので other reasonsにかかっていると解釈したのですが合っているでしょうか？ 質問がごちゃごちゃしててすみません＞＜ 文法構造を説明していただけたらありがたいです。。

「子どもたちが自殺を考える理由には、抑うつ状態のためということもあるかもしれないが、何か抑うつ状態以外で、しかも抗うつ剤の影響ではない理由があるのかもしれない。」 >that節のbe動詞がareなので other reasonsにかかっていると解釈したのですが合っているでしょうか？ そのようですね。thatという関係代名詞の名詞との結びつきの強さからすると、not related to depressionと挿入するのは、少し不自然とは思いますが、口頭表現ですから、そういったこともあるのでしょう。 ある種の抗うつ剤と希死観念との疑いが持たれているわけですが、対照実験なども踏まえると、抑うつ状態でもないし、治療薬の副作用でもないといった原因での希死観念も考えられるということでしょう。

that は reasons にかかっています。 すなわち、訳は 「子供達は欝によって自殺念虜を持つかもしれないが、抗鬱剤が効を奏さない、欝とは無関係の原因によっても自殺念虜をもつかもしれない。」 となります。 sachan_ta さんの訳ですと、affect の意味が引き起こす、となっていますね。 affect はここでは効果/効能がある、という訳が適切です。
