(2)He was foolish enough to say such a thing. これ(1)が正しいのはわかりますが、(2)がいけない理由がイマイチぴんときません。 直訳すると(2)「彼は、そんなことを言う という行為をするには もう十分なほどアホだった。」となって、結局『そんなことを言った』のか言わなかったのかについては、言及されていない文になっちゃうってことですか？ でもI was surprised to hear the news.と同じ文型にみえてしまって、混乱してます。 教えてください。宜しくお願いいたします。

「あなたはあんなにひどい評判のホテルを彼女に勧めるべきではなかった」 は、 You shouldn't have recommended a hotel with such an awful reputation to her. と参考書にありましたが、 You shouldn't have recommended such an awful reputation hotel to her. ではいけませんか？これだとホテルを修飾するsuch an awful reputationと長いからwithをつけて、後にもってきているのでしょうか？ それなら、このwithをthatにしては駄目なのですか？

この前和文英訳のポイントとして日本語にない英語を補う事を学びました．そのときの例がこれです． 私の息子がまたお金を送るように頼んできました． ＝My son asked me to send him some maney. このように日本語にはないですがsendのあとにhimがありますよね． しかし他の本では （状況：自分が友達の試合を見に行くことになりました．私が試合を見に行くことは決まっています．） もし私の妹に時間があれば，連れて行きたい． とあります．私は If my sister has free time, I want to take her there(to your game). と思ったのですが答えには If my sister has free time, I want to take her. とあります．どういうときに英語を補わなくても良いのでしょうか？ またはこの答えが不自然なのでしょうか？
