東大の過去問です。What would turn the disaster into a catastrophe would be if the heavy metals in the waste were to penetrate the aquifer under the park. という文章のwould beは「存在するだろう」「生じるだろう」と考えればいいのですか？それとも補語が省略されているのですか？よく分かりません。よろしくお願いします。

下のほうも見て，さらに補筆。 ぼくの回答にも礼をいったらどうです？ この方面のプロが，ぴっちりの訳をつけているわけですからね。 難関大をねらっているなら，このていどの文章は，文法がどうのこうのこだわらずに，直感で理解できたほうがいいですよ。 数日間遠ざかっていましたが，やっぱり英語カテゴリーはストレスがあるので，もう出るのはやめよう 爆。

If you want to see hem,he would be delighted. It would rain when I have a date. などの文で、どうしてwillじゃなくてwowuldを使うのか？ どうしてここにwouldが来るのか？ わかりません＞＜ そして、wouldには全部で何個の意味があるのでしょうか？？ 例文つきで教えて頂けたら嬉しいです：） そして、Couldの用法についてもついでに教えて頂けたら助かります！ 読んでくれてありがとうございました！

以下の文なのですが、文法が苦手なもので、wereが文頭にきているのがどういうことなのか良く分かりません。自分の中では、勝手に仮定法かな？と思って次ぎのように訳してみたのですが、なぜwereが文頭にきているのか、そして私の訳はどこがどう間違っているか、教えてください！ Were the right to kill a child put even into a parent's hands, the effect would be evil indeed in our own world. Were the right to kill any innocent person assumed by society, the effect would be monstrous. かりに子どもを殺す権利が親に与えられたとしても、我々の世界ではその結果は極悪そのものである。もし誰か無実の人間を殺す権利が社会によって容認されたなら、その結果はとてつもないものになるであろう。

If it were me [to whom it had been thrown], I would have caught it easily.” In most cases, it should be “If it were I.” という英語による文法の説明がありました。しかしこれは時制上、”If it had been me, I would have caught it easily.”となるべきではないのでしょうか？ 同じように、”He didn’t collide with me. He could have caused me and himself serious harm if he crashed into me.”と言うネイティブがいるのですが、これも” He didn’t collide with me. He could have caused me and himself serious harm if he had crashed into me.” と言うべきところではありませんか？ 大過去の形をとるべきであろうと理解される部分の時制を、過去形で表現しているネイティブの言語専門家による仮定法の文例を散見し、混乱しています。 どのようなことが理由か教えて頂ければ幸いです。よろしくお願いいたします。

海外のサイトの文法クイズです。 ①Need to choose 1)or 2) as a correct clause; If I hadn't got this job, 1)I wouldn't have been able to use what I learned into practice. 2)I wouldn't be able to use what I learned into practice. The answer is 2). 良い例文 “If you hadn’t saved me then, I would have died.”から考えると、１）過去のある時点で、I got the job then.してて、I was able to use my career...だったから I would't have been~.と思っています。 答えの2)I wouldn't be able to use what I learned into practice.から考えると、「ひょっとしたら使えてない。」の意味は過去のある時点を示唆してないと思うので、ここに過去の出来事のニュアンスを入れるために I wouldn't have been able to~にすべきだと思うのですが、なぜ2）だけが正解だと言っているのでしょうか？ ②Need to choose 1)or 2) as a correct clause; "James is always lazy. He failed a test last week." 1)If you weren't so lazy, you would pass that test. 2)If you hadn't been so lazy, you would pass that test.
