３倍の勉強時間

彼の勉強時間は私の勉強時間に比べ３倍もあることに驚いた。 と英語で I was surprised to hear that his studying time is triple compared to my studying time. と自分なりにつくってみましたが、tripleなど、使い方が正しいのか自信がありません。 まともな英語の教育を受けていなかったので、自分でつくってこれが精一杯でした。アドバイスおねがいします。

　　いいんじゃないですか。 　　私は単純なので I am surprised he studies three times as long. ちょっと短すぎるかも知れませんが。
