文章理解について

I always looked forward to when I could view the Earth during my mission, and appreciated that the shuttle often flew over Japan duｒing the day. この文章のwhen についてですが、 関係副詞で名詞節を構成し、look forward to の目的語になっていると理解しましたが、それであっているでしょうか？ 因みに、日本人宇宙飛行士　野口氏の言葉の一部です。

＃１の回答者のとおり関係副詞であっていると思います。 只、ミッションの間いつも心待ちにしていたと過去形になっていますので 先行詞はthe time （その時間又は時）の方が文脈的にしっくりくるので はないでしょうか？
