こんにちは。 電話で使われる表現に、 This is Taro (speaking). 「太郎だけど（ですが）」 があります。This is というのは、ラジオなどと同じで「こちらは～です」の表現に当たります。This is Radio Japan. お尋ねの表現はその変形ですね。speaking というのは夫婦間では丁寧すぎますから talking になっています。 ＞This is your wife talking to you. という英文の訳が、「あなたの妻があなたに話してるのよ」となっていました。 これは文法的には、talkingが現在分詞でwifeを修飾していると考えていいのでしょうか？ そう考えない方がいいかも知れません。This is Taro speaking. は、Taro is speaking. のような感覚です。ですから、Your wife is talking to you. のような感覚で捕らえた方がいいでしょうね。実際の言葉はなかなか文法では説明できないような表現がありますね。ラジオなどでも、This is Yoko talking to you out there. 「陽子が（スタジオの外にいる視聴者の）皆さんにお話ししていまーす」の乗りで話しますね。This is は、相手の関心を引いているくらいに考えるといいかも知れません。 お役に立てば幸いです。

You and me. --------------------- （出典： ROMA（ちょっと昔の海外テレビドラマ） セカンド・シーズン 第一話） 上記の会話文はティトゥス・プッロが、（はっきりと覚えていないのですが）ゲルマニアか、ガリア出身の女性に求婚した時のセリフです。 Your wife? Married?の部分が、「あなたの奥さん？ 結婚？」という意味なのですよね？ なぜMarriedなのでしょうか？ 名詞だとしたら「結婚した人」 形容詞だと考えると「既婚の」 動詞の過去形だと考えると、「結婚した」。 僕だったらYour wife?の次に単語ひとつだけ持ってくるとしたら、Marriage（名詞：結婚）を持ってきたくなります。（もちろん単語一つでなくてよいのでしたら幾通りもの候補がありますが。） 一体このMarriedは、（You want me to be) married. 等のようにものすごい省略がされているのかそれとも、、一体何なのでしょうか？？？（もしかして、女性がローマからみて外国人なので片言という設定なのでしょうか？ そもそも正しい英語なのかすら分かりません。） さっぱり分かりません教えていただけますか？ よろしくお願い致します。

今日もよろしくお願いいたします。 以下の２文はどう違うのでしょうか？？？ １)Who is the speaker talking to ? 訳；そのスピーカーは誰に喋っているのですか？ という英文がありますよね。 そこで、 ２)Who is the speaker talking ? という英文を考えてみたのですが、これは文として成り立つの でしょうか。成り立つ場合、訳は 訳；喋っているのは誰ですか？ で正しいでしょうか？？？素人的には、talkは自動詞で、目的語を 必要としないはずだから、この文は存在し得て、更に訳も正しい と考えています。 あと確認させていただきたいのですが、 １)Who is the speaker talking to ? という文は、 1-2)Whom is the speaker talking to ? 1-3)To whom is the speaker talking ? と書き換えられるわけですよね。 それで、以前、英会話学校の外国人先生に、 『はるか昔高校生の頃に1-2）と1-3）という書き方も習ったと思う』 と言ったら、1-3）のような言い方はしないと言われました。 そういうものなんですか？

- "It is ～for you"と、"It is ～of you"との違いについて。
"It is nice for you to walk in the park"と"It is nice of you to walk in the park"という二つの文が違う意味を持つということは分かるのですが、後者の文について、"Of"というのは、意味上の主語というほかにどういう意味を持っているのでしょうか？ 直訳すると、「については」という意味になり、"nice of you"が、「あなたにとっては心地よい」という意味になると思うのです。（ちなみに前者は、"For you to walk in the park is nice"と書き換えられ、to walk in the park=niceとなり、「あなたが～することはすばらしい」となる） ということは、"It is nice about you to walk in the park"でも、文法的にＯＫということになると思うのですが。よろしくお願いします。
