選択肢の問題
初歩的な質問かもしれませんが 慶応の問題で It' nice if a child can have[ ] 1 a room of himself 2 a room of his own 3 his only room 4 a room of his で正解は２ですが、４は解説があったからともかく １と３はどの部分でよくないでしょう？

アメリカに３５年ほど住んでいる者です。 これは、このままでは、＃２しか解答としてはないですね。 ＃１を使いたいのであれば、a room for himself.とofをforに変えればOKです。 また、これで、彼だけの部屋、という意味になります。 (補足質問の解答してしまいましたね、<g>) ＃３は無理ですね。 理由はもう出ていますね。 ＃４は使える、という立場から見ると、It's nice if a child can have a room of his dream/wish!と追加すれば使える、となります。 これでいいでしょうか。 分からない点がありましたら、補足質問してください。

#1で回答したものです。 only his room は、「彼の部屋のみ」ですから、これもいけませんよ。 センター試験なら第２問あたりで出そうですので、あなたが高校２年生以下の方なら辞書でじっくりと見ておかれることをお勧めします。

納得して頂ける言い方ではないとは思いますが、二重属格の法則上、１はいけません。 a friend of mine とはいえても、a friend of me とはいえないのは中学で習ったとおりです。 his only room だと、「彼だけの部屋」にはなりません。「彼の持っている唯一の部屋」という意味になりますので、it's nice... とはつながりませんね。
補足
＞二重属格の法則上、１はいけません。 日本語につられてました。思い出しました。 ＞彼だけの部屋 only his room でいいんですか？
