英文の意味がわかりません・・・
この前映画を見ていたら is that a dare or double dare? というセリフがありました。外出禁止と言われたあとの台詞です。 これはどういう風に捉えたらいいのでしょう？ dareという単語の意味もなんとなくでしか掴めていないので・・。 自分で考えてみてもどうもピンと来なかったので、どなたか教えていただきたいです。

アメリカの有名な子供クイズ番組で Double Dare というのがあります。2人1組の2チーム対戦、問題に答えてお金を獲得するゲーム。 1)ホストが問題を出す。 2)先攻チームが正解すれば10ドルもらえるが、相手がわからないと思えば"dare"宣言し、回答権を相手チームに譲ってもよい。 3)dareされた後攻チームは正解すれば、20ドル（2倍）。不正解なら先攻チームに20ドル。ここで"double dare"宣言して、回答権をさらに返してもよい。 4)double dare された先攻チームは正解すれば40ドル（4倍）、不正解なら後攻チームに40ドル。 手堅く10ドル稼ぐか、40ドル獲得のギャンブルにでるか、失敗すれば相手に40ドル儲けさせるかもしれない、そんな駆け引きのゲームです。 まあ、ですから Is that a dare or double dare? は、「それに答えりゃ、2倍もらえんの、それとも4倍？」という切り返しだと思うんですが。 その前の外出禁止と言われた、というのは実際なんと言ったのでしょうか？なにか質問ではなかったですか？

ずいぶん前に買ったPCに付いていた東○の読み上げソフトを使っています。日本語は結構読んでくれるのですが、英語を読ませると、単語を１つずつ読んでしまいます。 I / wonder / what / it / is / that / is / making / the / noise / upstairs. という感じになってしまいます。 I wonder / what it is / that is making the noise upstairs. せめてこんなふうに読んでくれるソフトってあるのでしょうか？ ご存知のかたはよろしくお願いいたします。
