＃1です まず、ofには様々な意味がありますが、ofを「の」と訳すときは2通りしかありません。一つは「A of B」で「BのA」と、つまり後ろから訳すもの、もう一つは「A of B」で「AのB」と、つまり前から訳すものです。例をあげてみましょう。前者はa friend of mineやthe top of the mountainなどで、「私の友達(のうちの一人)」「その山の頂上」と訳すものです。後者はa cup of coffeeやa kind of troubleなどで「一杯のコーヒー」「一種の問題」と訳します。hundreds of～やthousands of～のofは後者にあたります。そのため訳が「数百の～」「数千の～」となるわけです。 次にhundredやthousandなどの数字のあとにつくもの(単位は除く)は上の使い方以外では原則常に単数形です。つまり千年前だろうと五千年前だろうとa thousand years ago,five thousand years agoとなりthousandの部分は決して複数形にはならないわけです。そのためにthousands years agoと二つとも複数形にすることははできないのです。 まあ今の段階ではhundreds of～やthousands of～で熟語として覚えてしまっても良いでしょう。

「あの橋は何年前に建設されたのですか」を How many years ago was that bridge built ？ としたのですが 解答では How many years ago was the bridge built ？ と the が使われていました。 この場合 that ではなく the を使うべきなのでしょうか。よろしくお願いします。
