under fire 砲火を浴びている。批判・非難を受けている。 over ~について、~に関して 組み合わせると「~について批判されている」「~に関して槍玉に挙げられている」のようなことになります。

"under fire ove ~" は、「~の件で非難されて」の意味です。 "are under fire over an eight million Yen discrepancy" で、 「8百万円(も)の不一致で非難を浴びている」 というような感じです。

Britain declared war on Germany on 4 August 1914 and on 9 August the BEF began embarking for France. Unlike Continental European armies, the BEF in 1914 was exceedingly small. At the beginning of the war the German and French armies numbered well over a million men each, divided into eight and five field armies respectively; the BEF had c. 80,000 soldiers in two corps of entirely professional soldiers made up of long-service volunteer soldiers and reservists. The BEF was probably the best trained and most experienced of the European armies of 1914. British training emphasised rapid-fire marksmanship and the average British soldier was able to hit a man-sized target fifteen times a minute, at a range of 300 yards (270 m) with his Lee–Enfield rifle. This ability to generate a high volume of accurate rifle-fire played an important role in the BEF's battles of 1914.

Good news, struggling millennial homebuyer: you’re moving to Japan. Why? Because the sushi’s fresh, the weather’s nice, and the houses are free. An increasing number of unoccupied properties around the country are being listed for sale on online databases known as “akiya banks”—“akiya” translating to “vacant house”—with thousands of homes in relatively good condition being offered up for either nothing or next to nothing, Insider reports. Prices on one particular akiya database don’t go any higher than a maximum of 30 million yen (about $360,000 Australian dollars), while many properties are listed under “gratis transfer” for the sum of literally zero yen. Pay a few taxes and some agent commission fees, and the place is yours.

Fire fighters and rescuers in Makati City can now reach high rise buildings as tall as 20-storey in responding to blaze or any emergency following the local government’s acquisition of new ladder fire truck – a first of its kind in the country. “With the ladder fire truck, Makati would be able to respond to high rise fires not only in the city, but also in other areas in the metropolis,” said Makati City Mayor Romulo “Kid” Pena who led the turnover to local Bureau of Fire Protection on Monday. The city’s financial district is a home to many high rise buildings, and it is a challenge for fire fighters to put out flames immediately. “The new ladder fire truck is a great help in responding to fire incidents since existing ladders cannot reach the tall buildings,” said Peña. As part of his aim to improve the disaster preparedness and response in the city, Pena also handed over different response units: 11 new ambulances, one super tanker fire truck that can carry 10,000 liters of water, two amphibious vehicles and a deployable command center to Makati City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
