『as』の訳しかたについて。

後ろにＳがない文章が続いているので、この as は主格の関係代名詞です。 puni2さんが書かれているもので、内容的にはいいと思います。 xiongさんの回答は、asの知識としては正しいですが、この文には当てはまらないと思います。 訳は「それは～だが」となります。 「それ」が指す内容は、前または後ろの主節の内容です。 従って、「(後ろに書いてある内容は)とてもよく知られていることだが」と訳せばいいでしょう。 ちなみに which は、多くは前の内容を受けますが、 まれに（文語で）後の内容を受ける使い方もあるようです。
