I have a question．
My question is about the following sentence. Described by DUO, sentence No394 "They are primarily concerned with exploiting us,not with enhancing our living standard" Inquiry Example sentence says "not with enhancing our living standard". But i think the following sentences are also right. "not concerned with enhancing our living standard" or "not enhancing our living standard" What do you think? Please anser in Japanese.See you.

１。 "not concerned with enhancing our living standard" とも言えるか？ 言えます。 concerned を繰り返しただけ冗長です。 ２。 "not enhancing our living standard" とも言えるか？ 言えます。原文とは意味が違います。

本の例文は、以下の事を言っています。 "They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, and[therefore/so/but] they are not primarily concerned with enhancing our living standard" 後ろのthey are primarily concernedが重複するので、 意味が不明確にはならないので省略して、not withと書いています。 withをつけないと、concernedに関する説明であることが不明確になることを考えて、 not withとしています。 withがないと、 they are not enhancing our living standard とも取れる。 重複省略は、頻繁にみられる事項です。

"not concerned with enhancing our living standard" or "not enhancing our living standard" つまり、 1) They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, not with enhancing our living standard. 2) They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, not concerned with enhancing our living standard. 3) They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, not enhancing our living standard. はい、三つの文章は文法的に問題がないし、同じ意味を表すので、三つとも正しいと言えます。 ご参考までに。

Grammatically, those two sentences do not have any problems, but the latter one adds completely different "meaning" to the sentence. 元の文は "They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, and not (concerned) with enhancing our living standard" だから、質問の先のフレーズであっても問題はないです ただ、クドいだけ 後のフレーズだと "They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, not enhancing our living standard" ということになるので "They are primarily concerned with exploiting us, while (at the same time) they don't enhance our living standard" という感じの文になります 文法的に説明すればこういう風になりますが、意味としてはよくわかりませんね 文脈を提示してください

英語の質問ですか。 私は英語の専門でもないし 契約の専門でもないので あくまで 単なる素人の意見として； いわゆる契約文書としては 最初に示した文章が最適ではないでしょうか； なぜなら 英語の本来の文法である まず言わんとすることを言う というスタイルが コンマ以前に徹底されています。 さらに言うなら 本第３９４条の趣旨は。。。であり・・・ 決して何々ではない という大変英語らしい表現だなと勉強になりました。 あるいは 将来相互に解釈に齟齬を来したときには 明確にこういっている とほかに解釈の余地がない というところまで含んでいる・・・
