by the next month だと、「 来月までには 」 という意味になります。

私ならばこう書きます。 He will quit (retire) the company. The new person (flashman) may join the company to take over his job. It will be determined the next month 補足 米国では退職はretireだけとは限りません。 fire解雇 quit 自主退社 まず日本語を単純な論旨明快な文に分割しましょう。次にそれを訳するとよいと思います。どうしてかというと、日本語の長文だと接続詞の意味があいまいになり、訳しにくくなるからです。例えば...で...のより などの場合”より”の意味が英語で何をさすのか、まして自分の書いた文章でないと訳にくくなるからです。 例えば例文で分かるのは誰を指していますか。 部下に対しての説明のようなので話をしているご本人 でしょうか。それとも部下でしょうか。状況によって 文章のニュアンスも少し変わってくるでしょう。 前の回答者の方が会話調に訳されたのもそう言った理由が あると思います。

来月になれば、退職する彼の代わりに、新人が入ってくるかどうかが、分かる筈です。 By the next month, we should be able to see if they will hire a new employee because of his retirement. theyは漠然と会社の意味です。 新人が退職する彼の仕事を担当するという前提があれば、 By the next month, we should be able to see if they will hire a new employee to fill his position. なんてどうでしょうか？

( )the company pays me for last month's work, I am going to quit. の空所にはなぜuntillではなくunlessが入るのでしょうか。「会社が先月分の給料を払うまでずっとボイコットする」でいけると思うのですが、納得できません。解説をどうかお願いします。
