＞dedicatedはわかったんですが、dedicatingでもいいんじゃないか？と思うんですが 質問の意図が少しわかりません。 Sigfer Furniture company is dedicated to providing contemporary furniture at old-fashioned prices. この原文の"dedicated"の箇所を"dedicating"にしてもいいんじゃないか？という意味ですか？ →それはいけません。意味を成しません。 次のようなものと混同してはいけません。下の２文は同じ意味ですが、"excitement"という名詞形を用いて書き換えることができます。 The game was exciting to me. [＝The game was giving excitement to me.] I was excited by the game. 「＝I was getting excitement from the game.」 ●もし"dedicating＝giving dedication[献身] to ～"という意味があるなら Sigfer Furniture company is dedicating to providing contemporary furniture at old-fashioned prices と言えます。しかし"dedicating"にはそういう意味はありません。 Sigfer Furniture company is giving dedication to providing contemporary furniture at old-fashioned prices.とはならないのです。 もし"dedicated＝getting dedication[献身] from ～"という意味があるなら Sigfer Furniture company is dedicated to providing contemporary furniture at old-fashioned prices. とはならず Sigfer Furniture company is dedicated by providing contemporary furniture at old-fashioned prices. となります。 ●形容詞にも"exciting""excited"のような「（興奮）を与える」「（興奮）を受ける」というタイプの形容詞は、"pleasant""pleased"-"informative""informed"-"interesting""interested"-"delightful""delighted"などほかにもたくさんあります。この"dedicated"にはそういう形ではありません。あくまでも基本は"dedicate oneself to～"です。隠れた構造がまったく異なっているのです。

Sigfer Furniture company is dedicating itself to ～＝ "Sigfer Furniture company"はわが身を～に捧げる と"dedicate oneself to ～"とできるのですが、受動態にすると、自身の"itself"を主語にしそれが"it"になり、またそれが具体的な名詞"Sigfer Furniture company"に代わったと思えばいいのです。 そうすると次の受動態が出来ます。 Sigfer Furniture company is dedicated to ～ 【その他の例】 devote oneself to ～＝be devoted to ～ accustom oneself to ～＝be accustomed to ～ seat oneself at(on, in) ～＝be seated (on, in) ～

dedicated は、下記のように「献身的な」「熱心な」「ひたむきな」という形容詞です。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/dedicated/UTF-8/ SF company is big というのと同じです。

これは丸暗記しかないんですかね？dedicatingという形容詞があるような気がして混乱しそうなんですが

基本的すぎて馬鹿らしい質問かもしれませんが本気です(^_^;) いつもisのつけるタイミングが分らないんです・・・ he ～でいいところに、he is ～と余計な事をしてしまうんです。 例：He works at a big insurance company. （彼は大手の保険会社に勤めています。） にHe 「is」used to work at a big insurance company. としてしまいます。 なにか定義があるのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします！

ありがとうございます 説明すいません -edと-ingで今回意味が同じかなと思いました 会社が献身されるということ自体に違和感があり、会社は献身する側だろ と思いingでもいいんじゃないかと。
