"How did you find out?" スティーヴン・キングの『ゴールデン・ボーイ』の一節、主人公のToddが、アメリカの郊外でひっそりと隠れて生活している元ナチ、Dussanderの正体を暴く場面です。 この"he"はDussander。ナチ・ハンターからも逃れ、必死の思いでここに隠れているのに、突然現れた見知らぬ男の子が自分の正体を知っている。 このときの"A boy,"という一語に、万感の思いがこめられているのはいうまでもありません。 このようなときのAは、(ei)と発音されます。 ほかにも、ほんと、すごい才能だよ、というとき、veryなど強調を使わないで、一語で "He has a talent." というときもあります。こういうときも(ei)と発音されます。 ですから、ride, while, noteが強調されていることが考えられます。 2. 歌や詩の朗読など、韻を強調する場合 日本人にはあまり意識されませんが、英語の歌の場合、それがポップスであっても、ロックであっても、韻を踏んであります。 自分が大好きな曲に、Joni Mitchellの"A case of you"というのがあるんですが、その中に、 恋が終わるちょっと前に、あなたはこう言った I am as constant as a nothern star （ぼくはいつも変わらない、北極星のように） そこでわたしはこう言い返した Constantly in the darkness, where's that at? If you want me I'll in the bar. （いつも変わらず闇の中にいるってわけね。お望みなら、バーにでもいましょうか） これ、聞いてもらえればわかるんだけど、starとbarを対比させるために、Constantly以下、相当早口でごしゃごしゃ言ってるんです。 質問者さんが引用された部分が、こうした韻の箇所にあたるのかどうかわかりませんが、リズムを合わせるために、強調の(ei)で発音されていることが考えられます。 3. 訛りである場合 すでに#1,#2の方が指摘しておられますが、aの音を(ei)と発音するのは、イギリスのコックニー訛り（ロンドンの下町っ子）なんです。このコックニーというのはかなりきつい訛りで、イギリスに渡った夏目漱石もまったく聞き取れない、と自信喪失しました。 それはともかく、オーストラリア移民の第一世代はほとんどこのコックニーだったため、それがオージー英語になっていった、という経緯があります。 ですから、たとえばベッカムの話しているのを聞いてみると、aの部分を(ei)と発音しているのがわかります。 だけど、もしかしたら奥さんに「みっともないからやめなさい」と矯正されてるかもしれません。 そのミュージシャンがロンドン出身で中・上流階級ではない出自の人なら、コックニー訛りで歌っている可能性もあります。
