質問

こんにちは。知的財産についての長文からの質問なのですが、
As with other kinds of property, intellectual property can only be protected if ownership is clear.【a/a/company/holder/individual/is/of
/often/patent/rather/scientists/than/the/the】who invented something in the course of their work.
1行目の As with other kinds of property ....の意味は「他の種類の財産のように、知的財産は所有権がはっきりしてる時のみ守られる」だと思うのですが、このwithはどうして付いているのでしょうか？無くてもいいと思うのですが。
その後の【a/a...】は並べ替えなのですが、自分では　A patent holder is often a company rather than the individual scientists. 「特許の保持者は研究の途中で何かを発見した科学者よりも会社になっている場合が多い」とやってみたのですが、theが一つ余ってしまうのです。どなたかお教えくただけないでしょうか。いつもありがとうございます。

そうですね。難しい文章です。
other kinds of propertyも、同じように守られていますよね。
なので、「所有権がはっきりしている」という条件下では、
「他の種類の財産とともに」「知的財産もまた、同じようにして」保護されている、
のような感じなのだと思います。

＞A patent holder is often a company rather than the individual scientists.

こう並べますと、of とthe が余ってしまいます。

A holder of a patent is often the company rather than the individual scientist.

特許の保持者は、個人の科学者ではなく、むしろ会社組織になっている場合が多い。

のようにすればいいと思います。

withは僕も要らないと思いますが、もしかして「the」のミスプリかも？？？
