英文和訳(日本語の質問） 日本語の得意な方に質問です。 It is important to recognize that one of the most remarkable things about the great philosophical books is that they ask the same sort of profound questions that children ask. という英文の和訳が 「哲学の名著について最も注目に値することの一つは、そうした名著は子供が尋ねるのと同じような根源的な問いを投げかけている、ということを認識するのが大切だ。」 となっているのですが、僕にはどうもこの日本語が正しくないような気がしてなりません。 「哲学の名著について最も注目に値することの一つは、そうした名著は子供が尋ねるのと同じような根源的な問いを投げかけていることだということを認識するのが大切だ。」 としないとおかしくないですか？ 英文は理解できています。 英語のカテゴリでも質問したのですが、国語の方でもしようと思いました。 よろしくお願いします。

日本語も英語も得意ではありませんが、質問者さんの意見に賛成です。 もともと原文の It is important to recognize that の部分はなくてもかまわないのではないでしょうか。うしろに the most remarkable things とあり、文が冗長になっているように感じます。 自然科学論文執筆用のある手引書には「It is important to note ・・・ は使うな」という意味のことが書いてあったと記憶しています。important でないことなど論文に書くべきでなく、書いてあることはすべて important であることが当たり前であるから、というような理由であったと思います。そのあたりは分野や文章の種類にもよるのでしょうが・・・。

この文は、「～ということを認識することが大切だ」の前の文が 「注目に値することの一つは ～だ（である）」と、いったん完結していなければならないところ、 「注目に値することの一つは ～を投げかけている」 と 文がおさまっていないところに、違和感があるのだと思います。 例えば 「なかなか痩せられない原因の一つは、毎晩夜食を食べている」 では文として完結していない訳で 「なかなか痩せられない原因の一つは、毎晩夜食を食べている*ことだ*」としなければなりません。 そこに 「なかなか痩せられない原因の一つは、毎晩夜食を食べている、ということを自覚することが大切だ」 と文が続くと、前の文が完結していないにもかかわらず 違和感が薄れてしまうのは、「ということを自覚することが大切だ」の 「ということ」が前の文の「ということである」 をあたかも含んで完結させてしまったかのように錯覚することでしょうね。 正しくは、質問者さまのご意見のように、 「哲学の名著について最も注目に値することの一つは、 そうした名著は子供が尋ねるのと同じような根源的な問いを投げかけていることだ/ (そういうことを）ということを認識するのが大切だ。」 とすべきだと思われます。 参考までに書いてみました。

簡単な文構造の英文ならすぐに日本語に和訳できるのですが少し複雑な英文だと和訳する問題でうまく自然な日本語に訳せません 英語のままなら理解できるのですが普段から英語のままで理解してるのでうまくできません どなたか下の英文を例として用いて自然な日本語に和訳する方法を教えていただけないでしょうか? It would seem that bright German or French people who have good English as well as their own language are really far better off and that the British, at any rate, are starting to realize. As I sit in front of my radio listening to music that is being broadcast from far distant station, I cannot help thinking of instuments called transmitters which make the waves that travel through space at a wonderful speed and bring voices of far away musicians to my ears.
