適語補充問題（関係代名詞など）を教えてください。
I had a high fever yesterday.That was (ア) I was absent from school. I was absent from school yesterday. That was (イ) I had a high fever. 上の２つの文がほぼ同意になるように適語を補充せよ。 という問題です。 （ア）には why が入るのかなと思いますが、（イ）の方は because でよいでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

こんにちは。 早速質問なのですが、 私が先日英会話教室に行ったときのことです。 先生に、「元気だった？」と聞かれたので、「昨日は熱があって、学校を休んだ。」と答えました。 その際、「I was absent from school yesterday.」と言ったら、 「その言い方はあまり良くない。I took a day off from school yesterday.と言うべきだ。」と言われました。 そのときは、覚えておこうと思って過ごしてしまったのですが、家に帰って疑問に思い、質問しました。 なぜ、I was absent～ は良くないのでしょうか？ 分かる方、教えてください。 ちなみに、先生はイギリス人で、私は高校生です。

「(a)(b)がほぼ同じ内容になるように( )内に適語を入れなさい。」 という問題です。 (a)Azusa understood the example written in English. (b)Azusa understood the example (that) (was) (written) in English. ( )内の関係代名詞を that にしたのですが。模範解答では「which」となっていました。 この場合、that ではダメでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。
