はじめまして。 さて、マイケルジャクソンの娘が、追悼式で以下のように述べていました。 my dad had been the best father you could ever image. と言っていたのが、could everが引っかかってなかなかうまく訳せません。 もしよかったら、 ・上文の訳 ・could ever の文法的解説 ・例文 を挙げていただけると大変うれしく思います。 お忙しいとは思われますが、何卒よろしくお願いいたします。

基本となる文は you image: 人が思い描く この場合 you は具体的にあなたという意味ではなく一般的な「人」を意味します。必ず人と訳す必要はありません。 you could image：人が思い描くことがあるかも知れない could は過去形で subjunctive (仮定法) ですので「想像上の可能性」を表しています。人によって father の image は様々異なるわけですが、そのような「様々の可能性」というニュアンスを could が一言で言い表しているわけです。 ever (副詞) は単なる「強意」で、日本語には直接には対応する言葉がありません。 下記は google 検索で見つけた文例です。 -----Order your designer bags from us, you will get the top quality luxury at a lower price than you could ever image! -----this is one of the best things you could ever acquire.

難しいことはなく、比較級構文の中で、最上級を表す表現だと思いますよ。 my dad had been the best father you could ever image. （私の父は、かつて皆さんが想像しえた中で最もステキな/最高の父でした） could → canの過去形 ever （副詞）→ かつて/今までに/これまでに ex. This present is the best thing I could ever have. She is the best singer I could ever listen. Is that the best watch you ever had ?

まず、私が web を探してみた限りでは、Paris Jackson は the best father you could ever imagine と言ったようです。image ではなくて、imagine です。 さて、imagine はしばしば could ever と一緒に用いられます。例文は google で "could ever imagine" を検索すれば山のように出てきますので、とくに作る必要がないと思います。could ever の意味ですが、これは仮定法で「可能な限り最大限想像してみても」というような雰囲気の暗黙の仮定を入れることになります。その結果、best や imagine を強調することになります。そこで訳は、「どんな想像をしても負ける人がいないくらいの最高のお父さん」というような感じになりますが、ちょっとおおげさなので、「本当に最高のお父さん」程度で良いのではないかと思います。

Do you think you could ever ~?の内容部分にcould ever 文？ 1⃣Do you think you could ever get used to living in a country where your language wasn't spoken? のようなDo you thinkはわかるので大丈夫です。が 内容文のyou could ever ~where 主語 過去形動詞～。の意味合いや文法的約束がわかりません。例文も欲しいのですが探せないでいます。 2⃣Do you think you could go out of this room for a while?のような頼む文は理解できるので、大丈夫です。例文探しは2⃣のような文ばかり見つかって1⃣のような文が見つけられないでいます。 1⃣の内容文で仮定法なのはわかります。だからそれに従ってwhereの中身も過去表現なのかな？everがついているのはなぜなんだろう？「whereの状況（だから過去動詞）ならYouはget used to living ~をcan できることだって（習慣的なことを聞くever)ある かも（→ここでcould変換）と思う？」 っていう理解であってますか？ 合っているならどんな例文が他にあるんだろう？ ①Do you think he could ever understand much better when the doctor gave him instructions about his symptoms? あんまり特殊なことでなくて、普通の人が「こうなら普通こうだよね」という仮定にぴったりかなと自分で文を作ってみました。これOK文ですか？ 宜しくお願いします。

現在完了でHave you ever been to Kyoto?などの文がでてきますが Have you ever been there? Have you ever been abroad? は副詞がくるからtoはつかない。 Have you ever been to Kyoto？ Have you ever been to the station? という具体的な場所ならばtoが必要。 という文法的な説明はあっていますか？ Have you ever been this place? はtoがつかないものを例でみたのですがtoが必要かどうかはどう判断したらいいのでしょうか？ よろしくおねがいします。

こんにちは [1] My father is proud of my brother's having been educated in United States of America. このような（単）文を、that節 などを用いた複文に書き換えよという問題です。 私は my brother's having been educated in United States of America. この部分は受動態の完了形だとみて [2] My father is proud that my brother has been educated in the United States of America. 若しくは ( has を had とも意味が取れそうだから） [3] My father is proud that my brother had been educated in the United States of America. と思いました。 別な人の意見によると [4] My father is proud that my brother was educated in the United States of America. でも、これは、that節以下は単に受動態だけになっていて完了形がないのでは？と思いました。 適切な回答と解説をお願いします。
