簡単に言うと、正解のdemandは需要一般をいう不可算名詞で、requestやorderは1回1回の注文をいう可算名詞だからではないかと思います。 demandがない、と言っても注文がゼロであることにはなりませんが、requestやorderがない、と言ってしまうと注文が全くないことになるからでしょう。 # もちろん全くなければ置かないでしょうが、常識的に言ってゼロと考えるのは妥当ではないでしょう。

高校受験の問題です。 この箱の中には何があるか知らない。 I don't know what is in the box. が正解。では、、 I don't know what there is in the box. では不正解でしょうか。 これを文法的にどう説明したらよいのでしょうか。 受験英語は別として、実際の語感ではどう違うのでしょう。

分詞構文を勉強しているのですが、beingが省略されたりされなかったりする例文がありよく分かりません。 (1) Because there was no bridge, we had to... (2) There being no bridge, we had to... (3) Because Mary was absent today, we couldn't prepare... (4) Mary being absent today, we couldn't prepare... (5) Mary absent today, we couldn't prepare... 主語が異なる時のことなのですが、上の文はbeingが省略されていませんが、下の文は省略されています。これはどういう事なのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。
