これは簡単に考えて 動詞の過去分詞の形容詞的用法で後ろの名詞を修飾していると 考えたらいかがでしょうか、 ・・・asked Juan では ・・・とたずねたジュアン ・・・answered Pedro ・・・と答えたペドロ ・・・said Carlos ・・・と言ったカルロス ここで“It looks like an egg," answered Pedro.を “It looks like an egg,”Pedro answered.としていまうと 前後の文のつながりが無くなってしまいます。 前後の文をつながらせるために過去分詞、現在分詞などの形容詞用法を 使って、どんどん後ろへつなげていくのは、いかにも英語的な 表現だと思います。 もう一つ注意することは、・・・egg,"となって文末がピリオドではなくて ”カンマ"になっていて、更に文が後ろまで続いていることを表します。 もうひとつ細かいことですが、話言葉のクォーテーションマーク””の 中にカンマが入ることです。””の外には、書かないんです。

こんにちは。お世話になります。 英語初学者です。 英文を読んでいたら、 ‟This is fun, ”shouted nadim. ‟It is if you don't shout, ”said Mrs May. という英文が有り、 そのあと、ページを進めていくと ‟I hope the rain stops, ”said Mrs May. という描写が有りました。 なぜ、‟It is if you don't shout, ”のときも‟I hope the rain stops, ”のときも、 if やhopeの後の動詞の前にwill が付かないのでしょうか？ hopeの後ろにはwillが付くことが有る、と聞いたことが有りますが、 この場合、ある場合とない場合とではニュアンスが変わってくるのでしょうか？ どなたか、教えては下さいませんでしょうか？ 宜しくお願いいたします。

ご回答ありがとうございます。 ＞もう一つ注意することは、・・・egg,"となって文末がピリオドではなくて ”カンマ"になっていて、更に文が後ろまで続いていることを表します。 もうひとつ細かいことですが、話言葉のクォーテーションマーク””の 中にカンマが入ることです。””の外には、書かないんです。 こういう表記の仕方があったのですね！ ””内の「,」は「.」の間違い（フィリピン人のいい加減さによるもの）と思いつつも、転記をする際は忠実に写したのですが、教えられて驚きました。 英語脳を作るには英文をいちいち日本語に翻訳しないで、筋を掴むようにすることが大切と聞きましたので始めたところです。 ありがとうございました。
