It is a fate to be able to meet you. 君に出逢えたのは運命。 のつもりで、辞書をつかって考えたのですが 会っていますか？？ 指輪にいれようと思うので 英語の得意なかた 回答いねがいします☆

こんばんは。 fate は絶対やめたほうがいいです。 手元の英英辞典では、 fate: the things, especialyy bad things, that will happen（後略） destiny の方がよいです。 （余談） 私が真っ先に思い出すのは、映画"Back To The Future"（１作目）で、 主人公が３０年前にタイムスリップし、その時代に、主人公の（後の）父（高校生）が、（後の）母（高校生）を口説こうとするシーンです。 父は、口説き文句の「君と出会えたのは運命だ」のdestiny（運命）を density（密度）と言い間違えます。 和訳では、destiny と density は、「運命」と「文明」になってました。（笑） つまり、density は、口説き文句に使えるほど洒落た表現だということです。 （くさい表現っぽいので、ネイティブの感覚からすれば、洒落てないかもしれませんが、指輪に彫る言葉は、くさくても良いではないですか。）

fate でも良いのですが、「悪運」を指すこともありますよね。この場合のように「幸運」を言うなら「fortune」を使ってはいかがでしょう？ It was my fortune to be able to meet you. Meeting you was my good fortune. 「君に」とするのも一つですが、「お互いに」というのも良いと思いますよ。相手もそう思っている 、、、のですよね？ It was fortunate we met each other. 指輪に彫る？ので、あんまりズラズラ長くない方が良いのなら、 By good fortune we met. Fortunately we met. 「bad fortune」と書かない限りfortune は「幸運」を指し、「good fortune」とすれば間違いようがありません。ただ、ご存知の通り、fortuneという単語には「金持ち」という意味もありますから、使い方をよく調べて下さいね。 ご参考まで。

「運命」の訳語としては以下の２つが挙げられますが微妙にニュアンスが違います。 fate 事の成り行きが,不条理で,人為的にはどうにもならないことを強調 destiny 事の成り行きの変更不能を強調,しばしばよい運命について用いる （ランダムハウス英語辞典より） 恋人にプレゼントするおつもりかなと思いますので、fateはちょっとぴったり来ないかもしれません。 また別の表現でwe are meant for each otherという言い方があります。 be meant for～ で ～に運命づけられているという意味です。 meantはmeanの過去分詞形です。 こちらは歌詞や映画などでもよく聞く台詞ですがいかがでしょうか。 紹介しているサイトを載せておきますね。

In the next sentence you mention that sometimes you like to sleep in it, so a better way to describe what you're saying could be... "A kotatsu will serve as a table, but it's not intended to be used as a bed." This way you're saying that it's not supposed to be a bed, but you could use it that way if you really wanted to. * I wasn't sure if this is what you were trying to say so I guessed.

こんばんは (1) （It is） nice to meet you. → お会いできて嬉しいです。【今まさに初めて会ったところ】 (2) （It is） nice meeting you. → お会いできてよかったです。【初めて会った人との別れ際？】 と思っているのですが、この解釈は正しいですか？ 実は今日、数日前に初対面した人から葉書が届き (1)の文章がありました。 It was really nice to meet you the other day. 私の感覚だと、こうゆう場合は It was really nice meeting you the other day. かなと思ったのですが、、、。 to meet と meeting を使うのではニュアンスの違いはあるのでしょうか？？ よろしくお願いします。
