There are a few general principles that apply to all the kinds of teaching. The first principle is that the teacher should be clear. Whatever you are teaching, teach clearly. Discover what your students do not know and then try to explain it to them in a way that everyone will understand. Use many examples and illustrations. Allow enough time for discussion. A good pupil is seldom silent. Patience is the second principle. Nothing worth learning can be learned quickly. Real teaching is not just giving information. It involves a conversion, an actual change in the pupil's mind, and this does not happen quickly. Lessons should be carefully planned and plenty of time allowed for repetition and review. Emotion should be controlled. Whenever we become too emotional as teachers, we are forgetting that conscious reason is what makes us men and not animals. The third principle is responsibility. Anyone who teaches should realize that it is a serious matter to guide another person's life. Discover what your students do not know and then try to explain it to them in a way that everyone will understand.

Discover what your students do not know and then try to explain it to them in a way that everyone will understand. There are a few general principles that apply to all the kinds of teaching.
-- After several millennia, one might think there was nothing left to say in the nature-nurture debate, but Matt Ridley shows that one would be wrong. The Agile Gene lucidly explain the most recent discoveries on what makes us what we are,and how we should think about these discoveries as we ponder who are want to be. -- この「what makes us what we are」の部分の訳の部分にいまひとつ自信がありません。 discoveries on what A what B を「A、そしてBの発見」ではなく、「Bを為すAの発見」というのが正しいのではないか、ということです。 2. how we should think about these discoveries as we ponder who are want to be. 上記訳文ではwe ponder who are want to be.

Now let me lay this out for you ignorant—bastards. You at the window, you’re so god-damned smart. We’re facing a danger here. Don’t you know it? These people are multiplying. That kid on trial, his type, they’re multiplying five times as fast as we are. That’s the statistic. Five times. And they are – wild animals. They’re against us, they hate us, and they want to destroy us. That’s right. Don’t look at me like that! There’s a danger. For God’s sake we’re living in a dangerous time, and if we don’t watch it, if we don’t smack them down whenever we can, then they are gonna own us. They’re gonna breed us out of existence.”
