>聞き手にとっても古い情報で、一つに限定されれば定冠詞ですが、話し手にとっては「アレ」と一つに限定されても、聞き手が知らなければ不定冠詞です。 上のように、Nsuikaさんが言われているのは、本当です。 聞き手にとって、新情報であるかどうかで、判断する面もあります。 ただ、例として挙げられている文章は、ちょっと注意が必要です。 There's a company that makes this keyboard [Kinesis] これは、There is の形が、「初めて話題に出す」と言うことを強調しているので、a company となるのが自然。 ただ、the company とすることも可能です。例として示す場合に、こうなることが多い。 First I work for a company that makes this software called Manugistics Group, Inc. これも、first とあるので、初めて話題に上ると言う感覚があるのでしょう。 こういう感覚の方が、the か a か、どちらをとるかの際の判断基準になっているのです。 「母は台所にいます。」は、My mother is in the kitchen. と the をとりますが、「台所」と言う情報が始めて話題に上っても、ほぼすべての場合、the をとります。これは、どこの家にも台所がひとつあり、話者の台所も、ひとつに決まっているので、という意識があるからです。 翻って、質問文を見ると、 She works for a company that makes this washing machine. まず、she で場面が限定されます。また、this washing machine でも 会社が限定されます。その意味で、a company よりも、the company の方が、とおりがいいのではないかと、考えます。

関係代名詞whichとthatの違いがよく分かりません。 どちらでもいいような気がします。 あるテキストの問題で、 She prefers to watch movies ( ) makes her cry. ( )内は、thatが正解で、whichだと間違いでした。 なぜなのでしょうか？

2度目の投稿です。前回はご回答ありがとうございました！！とても参考になりました。 今回はタイトル通り関係詞関する間違いです。 I have a cousin where lives in Denver, Colorado. She's married and has a little girl whom is two years old. The company that's she works for has a daycare center, so she can take her daughter to work with her in the morning, play with her during lunchtime and take her home after work. いつもありがとうございます。 「物・動物」について説明する時は関係代名詞はthatまたはwhichを使うって書いてあって、このページの問題は全部「主格の関係代名詞」です。 thatでもwhichでもどっちでもいいみたいに書いてあるのですが、 でもどれでもwhichにしたりthatにしたりしちゃって本当にいいのかな?と思って気になっています。 問題の中でも a picture that makes us happy a book that teaches us many things a bus that goes to the station はthatになっていました。 a letter which made us sad a computer which is expensive a dog which swims well はwhichiになっていました。 This is a car ( )runs fast. That is an animal( )lives in the water. We took a train ( )went to Osaka.
