訳は 私はAnne Symmersが「我々の軍隊にいる女性達は戦闘体勢の中で働くことを許されるべきだ。なぜなら、さもなければ彼女たちのキャリアの道が閉ざされてしまうことになる。」という考え方を支持していると聞いて困惑した。これは、女性が女性としてより力を発揮出来るような仕事は別として、男性に与えられるのと同等の地位や金銭的報酬を伴うキャリアの道を女性にも与えるように変更されつつある制度の構造の代償として、男社会が作り出した厳しい制度へも適応することを要求されている女性のもうひとつの例なのである。 直訳に近くなってしまいましたが、要するに、『男性と同じ女性の社会的地位を求め、改変されつつある今の社会にあっては、同様に男性に強要される辛い仕事も同様に女性はするべきであり、もしそれを女性が拒むなら必然的にキャリアの道は閉ざされる。だから女性隊員も戦闘体勢下で男性と同様に働くべきだ』という考えにAnneさんが賛成しているわけですよね。前後の文脈は分かりませんが、この"I"の人はそういう考えも持っていなかったから（男女平等！でも辛い仕事は嫌…とか）この人の意見を聞いて困惑しちゃった。という感じではないでしょうか。 確かに長い文ですね。日本語でも長すぎて分かりにくいですものね。
