「it probably won't be a while」の「it」は 「until I'll get a message and respond to it」を指すんですね。

1. It was a terrible experience. I don't know whether the driver was high on drugs. He had a funny smile on his face and he drove so fast and so crazily that I thought I wouldn't be alive to reach my destination. 2. I'll be killed by the pollution. The air was blue with exhaust gas and fumes. In fact, I'm glad to return to the comparatively 'clean country air' of Tokyo! But, on the other hand, I can't wait to get back to Thailand,'the Land of Smiles' either. But I am worrying whether I'll have the time or money. Anyway, I'm sure I'll manage it somehow. I am worrying whether I'll have the time or money. 多分、時間とお金の両方が心配なんだと思いますが、それなら whether I'll have the time and money.

In my first column of 2011, I wrote that Egypt "resembles nothing so much as Iran in the waning days of the Shah, in which a comparatively moderate regime led by a sickly despot confronts a restive and radical public." This was several weeks before the demonstrators arrived in Tahrir Square and Hillary Clinton reflexively judged the Mubarak regime "stable." You don't have to be particularly clever to point out the relatively obvious. But what does it say of the State Department that it failed to reach the same conclusion?
