You almost need to understand what something is not, in order to understand what it is. この文の what something is not と what it is の部分の日本語訳を教えてください。正直思い浮かびません。意味も正確に理解しているか自信ありません。ネイティブに聞くと、what something is not の something は it に置き換えていいそうです。 訳すと 「それがなにであるか」理解するために、「？・・・」を理解する必要がある。 おそらくコンテキストによっていろんな訳ができるとは思うのですが、この文だけで訳してくださいといわれたら一体どう訳せばよいのでしょうか。

よろしくお願いします。 実践ビジネス英語2月号のテキストP29に Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. by Joseph Addison という文があります。 和訳には「精神にとっての読書は、身体にとっての 運動と同じである。」 意味的には何となく分かりますが、ここでwhat がどんな使用法なのか わかりません。先行詞を含む関係代名詞には、思えません。 品詞は何でしょう？ 用法としては接続詞？ だとしてもいまいちピンときません。 他の語で置き換えることが出来るとしたら、どうなるのでしょう？ よろしくお願いします。

You don't care about me no matter what happens to me.についてです。 You don't care about me「あなたは私について関心が無い」までで文が成り立っているように思えてしまいます。しかし続いてno matter what happens to meという名詞節が出てきます。no matter what happens to meがどのように働いているのか分りません。解説をよろしくお願い致します。 about meを取り去ってYou don't care no matter what happens to me.とすればno matter what happens to meはcareの目的語でSVOの文型かなと理解できるのですが、about meが入るとよく分らなくなります。

ある大学入試対策用の文法・語法問題集に次の問題があります。 次の日本文の意味になるように（ ）内の語を並べかえて英文を完成させなさい。 その国で見られるものすべてをぜひ見たいと思っています。 I am ( be / is / anxious / see / seen / there / to / to / what ) of the country. 期待される答えとしては I am ( anxious to see what there is to be seen )of the country. しかないと思います。英和活用大辞典（研究社）のseeの項目にIt is quiet little town and you can see what there is to be seen of it in a couple of hours.（ここは静かな町で、２時間もあれば見るべきものをみんな見ることができる。）がありました。ここで質問ですが、 このwhat there is to be seen of...の部分はどういう結びつきになっているのでしょうか？特に、whatとof...は意味的に直接結びついているのでしょうか？googleでhear what there is to be heard ofやfind what there is to be found ofで検索してみましたがヒットしませんでした。ということは (be) seen of ...という結びつきが強いということでしょうか？
