イタリアの壁画？

ある翻訳本に「彼はピザの（堂の壁画の）ヴェルゴニョザのように指の間から覗いていた」というのがありますが、英文では「he went on seeing it: like the Vergognosa at Pisa he looked: between his fingers」となっています。「ピザのヴェルゴニョザ」はどんな作品でしょうか。よろしくお願いします。

補足です。 No.3に張ったリンクの壁画全体のタイトルは「ノアの葡萄摘みと酩酊」です。

こんなにも詳細に調べていただき、ありがとうございます。 仰った通り、「ジャン・クリストフ」です。クリストフの生きた時代は、普仏戦争から第一次世界大戦前夜までで、ロマン・ロランの執筆時期も今からおよそ百年前。ですが、当時の社会情勢、民族間の軋轢、音楽界と文壇の人間模様や雰囲気、人間心理への鋭い描写と批評は、色褪せるどころか、百年後の今だからこそ、いっそう煌々と輝いているように思いました。 音楽にも絵画にも疎いわたしですが、お薦めです。 本に書かれた音楽についても何か分からないことがあったら、またお知恵を拝借したいと思います。 本当にありがとうございました。

何の本かわかりました。ロマン・ロランの「ジャン・クリストフ」ですね。前から読んでみたいと思っていた本です（音楽家なので）。「ジャン・クリストフ」との関連で今一度調べてみたのですが、特に新しい発見はありませんでした。今のところ、この壁画ではないかと思います。 作者のベノッツォ・ゴッツォリですが、イタリア語版のウィキペディアによると、本名はBenozzo di Lese di Sandro（ベノッツォ・ディ・レーセ・ディ・サンドロ）ということで、ベノッツォ・ゴッツォリという名前は、ダ・ヴィンチやミケランジェロの伝記作者として有名な、ジョルジョ・ヴァザーリ（1511-1574）による命名らしいです。 作品のある場所は、No.2でお話ししたように、どちらにあるかよくわからないのですが、カンポ・サント（墓所）の北壁に残っている可能性があります。壁画全体のテーマは、旧約聖書中の、ノアが大洪水後に葡萄を栽培し、葡萄酒を飲んで裸のまま泥酔したという説話らしいです。下のサイトの右側にある５枚の写真がそのシリーズで、「はにかむ女」もその中にあります。 http://www.fondazionezeri.unibo.it/catalogo/scheda.jsp?decorator=layout_S2&apply=true&tipo_scheda=OA&id=14200&titolo=Brogi+%2c+Pisa.+Campo+Santo.+La+Vergognosa+(Part.re)%3b+Benozzo+Gozzoli 御参考になれば幸いです。

コメント拝見しました。 この画像の壁画が、本当にkatsuo1234 さんの読まれている翻訳本に出てくるものと同一かどうか、確信はありません。ただ、Vergognosaという名前では、これだけしか見つかりませんでした。右側の部分の写真らしいのですが、全体のものは見つかっていません。 「La Vergognosa」というタイトルで、「はにかむ女」という意味だと思います。作者は、No.1の回答に張った２番目のリンクに書いてあります。ベノッツォ・ゴッツォリという人です。１番目のリンクは、図書館所蔵の写真のデータか何かのようで、作品自体のデータではないようです。もう少し調べてみたのですが、ピサの大聖堂の北側にある、Campo santo（カンポ・サント・墓所）にあるか、あったものらしく、現在はそこの付属美術館に収蔵されているのではないかと考えられます。ピサへは昔行ったことはあるのですが、短時間だったので、そちらの方へは行っておらず、私自身は見たことがありません。 ピサのドゥオモ広場 http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%94%E3%82%B5%E3%81%AE%E3%83%89%E3%82%A5%E3%82%AA%E3%83%A2%E5%BA%83%E5%A0%B4#.E4.BB.98.E5.B1.9E.E7.BE.8E.E8.A1.93.E9.A4.A8 カンポ・サント https://plus.google.com/102157348580080679651/photos?hl=ja 付属美術館 https://plus.google.com/102253367158348343332/photos?hl=ja 私は、美術には大変興味はあるのですが、専門は音楽です。念のために、「学問・教育」の「美術」カテゴリーに改めて御質問なさったらいかがでしょうか。 ところで、お読みになっているのはどういう書物ですか。非常に興味があります。 御参考になれば幸いです。
