not so much in (A as B) というふうに共通項をくくる感覚にはなりません。 in A で A in B で B と思ってください。 日本語的には「財産よりむしろ人柄」に でいいですが， 英語的には「財産に，というよりむしろ人柄に」ある 「財産にある，というよりむしろ人柄にある」 で「ある」という動詞だけ共通，という感覚と言ってもいいです。 前置詞＋名詞で１つのセット。 「日本でもアメリカでも」は in (both Japan and America) ではなく both in Japan and in America というふうに言います。

原級比較に付いて A man's worth should be estimated not so much by his social position as by his character . とう文なのですが 「 not so + 原級 + as ・・・」 構文が使われていますが この構文の not は文否定ですので、この文は A man's worth shouldn't be estimated so much by his social position as by his character . という感じに should の後に not が付くのではないのでしょうか？ 違うのであれば何故 not は so much の直前に付くのか教えてください。

「彼は学者としてとより小説家としていっそう有名だ。」 という文章を作るとき、まず浮かんだのが 「not so much...as...(...というよりむしろ...)」でした。 しかし、もし日本語のまま英文になおしたら He is more famous not so much as a scholar as as a novelist. というふうにas asが重なってしまいました。 これって不自然ですよね？ 文法的には正しいのでしょうか？

not so much A as B をよく B rather than Aと書き換えの問題をみかけますが、ニュアンスの違いはあるのでしょうか。また This story is more exciting than interesting.の文を上記の表現を使っても表現できますか。（使えたらニュアンスの違いも教えていただけませんでしょうか？） not so much A as BのA,B のところに名詞や節や句はよくみかけるのですが、形容詞も入るのでしょうか？progressiveの辞書では He was not so much shocked as excited.というように過去分詞を用いたものがありました。AとBの性質が同じ物なら入れるのは可ということでしょうか？
