This election is about the past versus
“I did not travel around this state over the last year and see a white South Carolina or a black South Carolina,” Mr. Obama said, speaking to a diverse crowd of supporters. “I saw South Carolina.” “This election is about the past versus the future,” Mr. Obama said at his victory rally in a stark portrayal of his political challenge. “It’s about whether we settle for the same divisions and distractions and drama that passes for politics today, or whether we reach for a politics of common sense and innovation -- a shared sacrifice and shared prosperity.” the same ~thatにしては文法的にどうかと思うのですが、他にdivisions and distractions and drama that passes forを教えてください。

- the same divisions and ~thatとasの違い
“This election is about the past versus the future,” Mr. Obama said at his victory rally in a stark portrayal of his political challenge.“ It’s about whether we settle for the same divisions and distractions and drama that passes for politics today, or whether we reach for a politics of common sense and innovation -- a shared sacrifice and shared prosperity.” この the same divisions and distractions and drama that passes for politics today のthe same ですが私としてはthe same ~that 構文ではなく、the same divisions and distractionsとdrama that passes for politics todayの2つに分かれthat はdramaのみの関係代名詞であるという方に大きく傾いております。 2) the same A and B and C thatということになるが、普通はthe same A, B and C thatとするのではないか。 3) >「This is the same camera as I lost.」 >で、「無くしたのと同種(同型)の時計」 >「This is the same camera that I lost.」 >で、「無くした時計そのもの」 という区別が「一応」あること があげられます。ここでthe same A and B and C that構文だとすると「現在の政治としてまかり通っているのと全く同じAとBとC」という意味になってしまいます。

John McCain and Hillary Clinton have echoed each other, dismissing this call for change as eloquent but empty, speeches not solutions. And yet they know, or they should know, that it's a call that did not begin with my words. It began with words that were spoken on the floors of factories in Ohio and across the deep plains of Texas, words that came from classrooms in South Carolina and living rooms in the state of Iowa, from first-time voters and lifelong cynics, from Democrats and Independents and Republicans alike.

In early 1916, the German army had 900,000 men in recruit depots and another 300,000 due in March when the 1897 class of conscripts was called up. The army was so flush with men that plans were made to demobilise older Landwehr classes and in the summer, Falkenhayn ordered the raising of another 18 divisions, for an army of 175 divisions. The costly battles at Verdun and the Somme had been much more demanding on German divisions and they had to be relieved after only a few days in the front line, lasting about 14 days on the Somme. A larger number of divisions might reduce the strain on the Westheer and realise a surplus for offensives on other fronts. Hindenburg and Ludendorff ordered the creation of another 22 divisions, to reach 179 divisions by early 1917. The men for the divisions created by Falkenhayn had come from reducing square divisions with four infantry regiments to triangular divisions with three regiments, rather than a net increase in the number of men in the army.

- None of this is on you.
And with that said, here's the thing, dude: you were actively and intentionally deceived by Tammy into believing that she was two years older than she actually is, which means that not only are you not a pedophile for drooling over her photos, but you really need to cut yourself some slack for receiving them in good faith. Morally speaking, you didn't do anything wrong here. And while this girl's reasons for lying may be sympathetic, the risk she exposed you to (not to mention anyone else she sexted with) is pretty unforgivable, and your rage is both natural and valid. Her actions have the very real potential to ruin the lives of innocent men, which is both appalling and completely her fault. None of this is on you.

- he has billed it as a movement
“Politics is about policy, but it’s also about giving people some kind of sense of participating in a common venture with their fellow citizens,” Mr. Wolfe said. Philosophers call it “civil religion,” using the language of religion and elevation to talk about your country. A classic example is Ronald Reagan’s summoning of the “city on a hill.” That, Professor Wolfe said, was the parallel Mr. Obama was hinting at when he talked about Reagan as a transformative leader. “A soft civil religion is something our country desperately needs at a time of deep partisanship,” Mr. Wolfe said. “He wants to go back to the Reagan years as a Democrat, with Democratic policies.” But others see in this same language a more cynical cult of personality. “What is troubling about the campaign is that it’s gone beyond hope and change to redemption,” said Sean Wilentz, a historian at Princeton (and a longtime friend of the Clintons). “It’s posing as a figure who is the one person who will redeem our politics. And what I fear is, that ends up promising more from politics than politics can deliver.” From the day Mr. Obama announced his candidacy, he has billed it as a movement, and himself as the agent of generational change. billed itのitが何を指し示すのか教えていただけるとありがたいです。 http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/weekinreview/17zernike.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1&hp
