こんばんは。「普通」の訳し方で悩んでいます。 先ずは次の文です。 “天使じゃないのよ。あなたのイメージで見ないで欲しい。私は普通の女の子。” これを英訳してみました。 I'm not an angel. I want you not to look at me on your image. I am an ordinary girl. ここでは「普通」は ordinaryで訳して間違いはないと思います。 しかし、問題は次の文です。 “男の子と違う、女の子って。好きと嫌いだけで普通がないの。” これも一応訳してみましたが、完成できません。 Boys are different from girls. There are only liking and disliking, but no （～）. そこで、（～）の部分が分かりません。ここでは前の文と違って明らかに ordinaryは使えませんよね。そもそも、品詞から言っても名詞しか来れないと思うんですが、ordinaryに名詞形はないと思いましたし、それにあったとしても意味が通じないと思うんです。どなたか、英語の得意な方、知恵を貸してください。

「彼らは３年前に結婚した」 1/They got married three years ago. 2/They have been married for three years. 3/Three years have passed since they got married. 4/It is three years since they got married. これら４つの文の書き換えで質問です。 ・2番は「結婚する＝be marrid」を現在完了にしたから「have been married」の考えであってますか？ ・1番と2番を「since three years.」にしたら不正解なのでしょうか？ 時をあらわす「ago」「for」「since」の使い分けが分かりにくくて… ・3番で主語はThree yearsで人じゃないから受動態になって「have been passed」になったりしないのでしょうか？ 質問が多くて申し訳ありませんが、可能なところだけで解答お願いいたします。

かなり時期外れなのですが、メール友達にバレンタインについて訊かれ困っています。通じるのかわからない文章があるので添削をお願いします。（和訳はおおよそ伝えたい内容ですが、わからない文章だけ抜き出したので文の流れがおかしいかもしれません） 1) バレンタインデーについてですが、私が中学生の頃は、その日、女の子はどうやって好きな男の子にチョコレートを渡すか、男の子はいくつもらえるかというのが大きな関心事でした。（時制など、かなり自信ないです） As for Valentine's day, when I was in junior high, boys were concerned about how many chocolates they can get from girls, and girls how to give chocolates to boys they like. 2) それ（義理チョコ）は、誰が名づけたのかは知りませんが"chocolate out of courtesy"と呼ばれるそうです。 I've heard it is called "chocolate out of courtesy", even though I don't know who named it. 3) それ（義理チョコ）は本命にあげるものとは違って、友達や父親や仕事仲間などにあげるチョコです。 日本のバレンタインデーはカップルのための日というより、チョコレートの日のような感じもします。 It is not chocolates for someone special, but ones for male friends, fathers, co-workers, etc. So it feels like Valentine's day in Japan is Chocolate day rather than Couple's day.

こんにちは。 Fergieの曲「Big Girls Don't Cry」で We've got some straightenin' out to do And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket But I've got to get a move on with my life という部分があります。 I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket は"a child"なのに何故"their" blanketなのですか？ I'm gonna miss you like children miss their blanket なら納得がいきます。 歌詞だと三人称の"s"をつけなかったり、"it doesn't"を"it don't"としたりするのでその類いでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。
