of whom he was with at school だと思います。 with ～ at schoolで「～と学校に一緒に通った」ってことになると思います

高校受験を目の前に控えているけれど、気になってしかたがないので質問させて頂きます。 辞書にはmany much は疑問、否定文のみ使用可能で、 so such as veryなどを併用する場合はmany muchも肯定文で使えると載っていました。 しかし、いざ英文を読んでみると We had much rain yesterday. や He has many friends. のような文を目にします。 なぜこれは We had so much rain yesterday. や He has a lot of friends. のようにしなくても大丈夫なのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

参考書の問題からなのですが…。 長文を読んで答えるタイプの問題ではなく、単独の問題です。 She had three sons. Tom was the youngest of them. を関係詞を用いてひとつの文にせよという問題なのですが、正解は She had three sons of whom Tom was the youngest. です。（コンマはありません。） three sons of whom のところがわかりません。whom のなかの three sons ではなく、whom＝three sons ですよね？ 誤植の可能性（sons と of の間にコンマが必要）があると聞いたのですが、余計にわからなくなってしまいました。 質問(1) 上記は誤植でしょうか？ sons と of の間にコンマが入って She had three sons, of whom Tom was the youngest. になるのでしょうか？ 質問(2) 上記のふたつの文を関係詞を使ってひとつの文にする場合、 （a）She had three sons, the youngest of whom was Tom. （b）She had three sons, whom Tom was the youngest of. (a)や(b)ではダメなのでしょうか？ 質問(3) もし、誤植である場合なのですが、「～, of whom」という形はいろいろ調べてみても、ほとんど見かけないのですが、あまり使われない表現なのでしょうか？参考書にも載っていません。 質問(4) もし誤植でない場合、three sons of whomのところはどんなふうに考えたらよいでしょうか？解説していただけると嬉しいです。 「～, some of whom… 」や「～,all of whom …」など数量を表す表現に of which や of whom がつくものは参考書にも説明が載っているので理解できました。 ただ、 She had three sons of whom Tom was the youngest. She had three sons, of whom Tom was the youngest. こちらのふたつの文は参考書や辞書等で調べても見かけませんし、文法的にどうなっているのかわかりません。 頭の中が整理できず、ややこしい質問文になってしまい、申し訳ありません。どなたか教えていただけますか。 よろしくお願い致します。
