洋書"THE BIG HOUSE"の訳本の存在

おはようございます。 このところ忙しかったのと、同様な質問に答えていたため、誰かほかの人の回答が出現するのを待っていたのですが・・・。結局質問をご自身で削除し、改めて掲載するようなことになってしまい、恐縮です。 調査は既に済んでいて、これは「無い」が答のようです。 HOWEに付いては、カナ表記だと「ハウ」になりそうな気がしますが、この確定出来ないミドル・ネームは検索の対象から外して、確実な「コルト」で図書館を調べてみました。 その前に先ず元の（GEORGE HOWE）COLTを実行したわけですが、国会図書館該当無し。大学図書館、各種一般公開向け研究機関付属図書館、都道府県立図書館の統合検索システム、Webcat Plusでは4件出ます。 http://webcatplus-equal.nii.ac.jp/libportal/equalTop.html こちらでの検索の場合、書誌情報にきちんと著者の元綴りが記録してあれば、日本語訳の本でもそれも結果として出ます。 結論としては元綴り、カナ表記共に日本語での刊行書は1件も見当たらないので、無しと判断するのが妥当だろうということになります。「ジョージ・コルト」として国会で検索しなおしても該当無しですから、これでほぼ確定だと思います。 ついでですからもう少し話を続けましょう。 昔「リーダーズダイジェスト」というアメリカの月刊誌の日本語版が出されていました（20年以上前に廃刊されました。英語版は健在のはずです）。この会社が、本誌及び、本誌とは別に年に数回単行本の形で主にアメリカの小説の短縮翻訳版を掲載または刊行していました。実はそれらの中にはその後完訳版が出ないままに終わったものも少なくありません。特に推理要素の濃いものに関してはその方面のマニアが探し続けている巻も含まれています。 それで何を言いたいのかというと、或いは同様のことが他の雑誌でも無いとは限らないということです。ただお探しの小説の場合、或る一家の避暑地の家の100年の歴史というかなり長そうな話ですから、短縮するのもかなりむつかしいでしょう。また短縮化は誌名通りにリーダーズのお得意だったので、ほかの雑誌でそういうことをしていたところは多分無かっただろうと思います。 いずれにしても雑誌記事を見つけるのは、今回のような検索をはるかに越える難事ですので、この辺が限界でしょう。 どうしても読みたいとなるとアマゾン辺りで原書を買って、なんとかするしかないでしょう。 http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/074324964X/249-6724704-4211561?v=glance&n=52033011&s=english-books 上記の内容見本を見ると、ページ数も無茶苦茶に多いわけではないですし、冒頭の文章はそれほどむつかしくはないようですから、努力あるのみでしょうか（自分ではとてもやらないようなことを無責任に奨めてしまい、申し訳ありません。苦笑）。
