仮定法ではないですよ。 >If you thought CHARLES's room was untidy, you hadn't seen this one. 「もし君がチャールズの部屋が散らかっていると思っていたんなら、この部屋を（それより以前に）見たことがなかったんだろうな。」 時制を一つ未来に進めると以下のような文になります。 If you think CHARLES's room is untidy, you haven't seen this one. 「もしチャールズの部屋が散らかっていると思うんなら、この部屋を（今まで）見たことがないんだろう。」 これがif節と対の節が過去になったのがお示しの文です。単純なif文であるわけですが、現状に反するようなニュアンスは含まれていません。 仮にチャールズの部屋が散らかっていると以前に思っていたのなら、この部屋を見たという事実は過去にはないはずだ、と言っています。ある条件が成立する場合の、過去に対する率直な推測です。 P.S. 仮定法過去だと以下のようになります。 If you thought CHARLES's room was untidy, you wouldn't seen this one. 「もしチャールズの部屋が散らかっていると思っていたなら、この部屋を見ることはないだろうな。」 散らかっていると思っていたのなら、この部屋を見る気は起こさないはずだ、しかし散らかっているとは思っていないはずだから、この部屋を見る気になったんだろう、という含意があります。現実とは違う仮想的な状況を言っていることになるわけですね。

一応自分でも解いてみたのですが、答えに自信がないので解説をお願いします。 全て四択問題です。 1. 仮定法過去、仮定法過去完了の否定文 というのを見ないのですが、 文法的には 仮定法過去は If S didn't V , 仮定法過去完了は If S hadn't V になるのでしょうか？ どうぞよろしくお願い致します。

仮定法で現在完了を言う場合、例えば「もしあなたが今日やり残したことがあったのなら」と言う文を仮定法で言いたい場合は、if there were something you hadn't achieved yet todayになると思っていたのですが、you hadn't achieved yetは仮定法過去完了になって意味があやふやになってしまわないのか急に疑問になってきました。仮定法で完了形を言いたい場合は仮定法過去完了のようにやはりhad~を使っても良いのでしょうか、それとも別の言い方があるのでしょうか。どうぞご回答宜しくお願いいたします。

海外のサイトの文法クイズです。 ①Need to choose 1)or 2) as a correct clause; If I hadn't got this job, 1)I wouldn't have been able to use what I learned into practice. 2)I wouldn't be able to use what I learned into practice. The answer is 2). 良い例文 “If you hadn’t saved me then, I would have died.”から考えると、１）過去のある時点で、I got the job then.してて、I was able to use my career...だったから I would't have been~.と思っています。 答えの2)I wouldn't be able to use what I learned into practice.から考えると、「ひょっとしたら使えてない。」の意味は過去のある時点を示唆してないと思うので、ここに過去の出来事のニュアンスを入れるために I wouldn't have been able to~にすべきだと思うのですが、なぜ2）だけが正解だと言っているのでしょうか？ ②Need to choose 1)or 2) as a correct clause; "James is always lazy. He failed a test last week." 1)If you weren't so lazy, you would pass that test. 2)If you hadn't been so lazy, you would pass that test. The answer is just 2). これも同じような理由で、He failed a test last week.なら , you would have passed that test. と両方の選択肢文を訂正すべきだと思っています。 この②のクイズが2)If you hadn't been so lazy,を選ぶのは何となく解ります(James is always lazy.⇒James was lazy that day as usual.からIf you hadn't been lazy, なんですよね。） If 仮定法大過去 clauseにつなげる文の時制がわからくなりました。御願いします。 A good example sentence is "If I were a bird, I could fly to you." “If you hadn’t saved me then, I would have died.” the action James made in the past is expressed "If you hadn't been so lazy,(you were lazy that day as usual.),then "you would have passed that test. According to 1), now James is lazy. So his possibility to pass the test is quitelow. If he were According to 2),James was lazy that morning as usual. So he failed a test then. In this case,is the correct sentence that If you hadn't been so lazy, you would have passed that test, isn't it? Why is only "you would pass that test" correct?

Then I was a young professional , doing extremely well , helping people , getting the respect of my colleagues and supervisors , yet still pushing myself , still believing that I wasn't quite where I could be and that if I only worked harder and accomplished more , I could get to where I thought I belonged. I was twenty-eight years old then-and,yes. 仮定法過去の用法やらが使われているのは理解できますが、 関係詞のthatやカンマで くくられている部分がありすぎて 使われている文法も見抜けず、うまく訳せません。。。 どなたか解説お願いいたします！！
