添付ファイル文章の He had not managed to prepare his face for the position he found himself in with regard to his wife now that his guilt had been revealed. の解釈に関する質問です。 He had not managed to prepare his face for the positionを 「彼はその状況に適した顔をつくることが できなかった。」 ここまではなんとか理解できるのですが、 以降の→ he found himself in (the position ) with regard to his wife 「彼が陥ったその立場に 妻に関わる」 ■with regard to his wife をどのように理解して読んでいけば良いのか分からないです。 now that his guilt had been revealed. 「彼の過ちが明らかにされた今、」 解説お願いします

以下のとおりお答えします。 ＞He had not managed to prepare his face for the positionを「彼はその状況に適した顔をつくることが できなかった。」 ここまではなんとか理解できるのですが、以降の→ he found himself in (the position ) with regard to his wife「彼が陥ったその立場に 妻に関わる」■with regard to his wife をどのように理解して読んでいけば良いのか分からないです。 now that his guilt had been revealed. 「彼の過ちが明らかにされた今、」 ⇒確かに、後半がちょっと複雑で、分かりにくいですね。 vgilkgtujさんがなさったように、全文を節単位に分けて考えると分かりやすくなりまうね。 ＊He had not managed to prepare his face for ～：「彼は～に見合うような／にふさわしい顔をつくることができなかった」。 ＊the position he found himself in with regard to his wife：「妻に関わって彼が陥った立場（に見合う／ふさわしい顔）」。 ＊now that his guilt had been revealed：「彼の過ちが明らかにされた今」。文修飾の副詞節として、主節全体にかかる。 ということで、全訳はこんな感じになると思います。 「彼の過ちが明らかにされた今、妻に関わって彼が陥った立場に見合うような顔をつくることが（彼には）できなかった。」

Harry Potter and the Golbet of Fire [UK, adult版] p.574 の真ん中より少し下の文に関してです。 シリウスの発言で、 「（クラウチは）少しでも自分の評判を傷つけるようことは消してしまうやつだ。魔法省大臣になることに一生をかけてきた男だよ。」 というのを 「Anything that threatened to tarnish his reputation had to go, he had dedicated his whole life to becoming Minister for Magic.」 と表現しておりました。ここで「消してしまうやつだ」に相当するのが「had to go」にあたると思うのですが、なぜそうなるのかがわかりません。「had to」や「had to go」を調べたのですが、適当なものが見つかりませんでした。 教えていただけないでしょうか？ それから、 「dedicated his whole life to becoming 」とあるのですが、「becoming」とここではto不定詞ではなくて、動名詞になっています。「look forward to」もそうなのですが、どういうときにtoの後でも動名詞になるのでしょうか？やはり、動名詞になるのを一つひとつ覚えるのがてっとり早いのでしょうか？ 教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。
