My husband and I were raised to eat dinner with our families. We ate what Mom prepared, or we went without. we went withoutはどのような意味でしょうか？withoutの後に何か省略されているでしょうか？よろしくお願いします

夫も私も、家族と一緒に夕食は食べるものだと育てられた。 母親の作ったものを食べるか、 （外で家族一緒に食べるべく）出かけるかした。 without は基本前置詞なわけですが、目的語がない場合は 省略です。 in/on などの副詞用法とはちょっと違います。 have coffee with milk or without 前にある milk が省略されています。 ここは前にある are ... つまり without eating what Mom prepared でしょう。 ただ、せっかく用意したのに食べずに ということでなく、 そうでない場合、というだけのことです。

うまく英作出来ないので、教えてください I went to eat free yamutya at Umeda whih my friends . Dim sum ,syumai and stuffed. As We ate a lot of something food ,We were full. I got dizzy. When We had dinner ,We took summer vacashion where We want to go. (This is asking when both parties should eat, the speaker and the listener) None of the other versions is possible. 上記の文章で"eat"と"we ate"の違いが説明してあると思うのですが、1番では話者が相手に今か後かを聞いているだけで、2番では話者が自分も含めて聞き手とも一緒に今食べるのか、後で食べるのかを聞いているのだと理解しています。しかし、なぜ"ate"になるのか文法的に理解できません。解説をお願いします。
