U2 frontman Bono has said the local violence and "sheer fear" of his teenage years in North Dublin helped to inspire his music and influenced the songwriting process behind the band's track Cedarwood Road. The 55-year-old singer, real name Paul Hewson, who was raised on Cedarwood Road in Glasnevin, said he used his teenage experiences of his hometown to compose the track for U2's current album Songs of Innocence.

During Bono's teenage years the Seven Towers housing project was in place, which relocated families to the Ballymun flats. "They were very unhappy, they were angry, they were annoyed, these were the people we would meet as young teenagers," he said. "A lot of my early memories of teenage years were of violence, and the sheer fear of leaving the house, going to catch the bus," he added. "That [song] has all the dignity of that neighbourhood. Some dark characters indeed, but the general decency of people, the goodness, is in [the] guitar solo. I couldn't have achieved that," he told music podcast Song Exploder.

Scott Weiland's Family Sues For Misuse Of Famed Singer's Name LOS ANGELES, CA – Scott Weiland's children sued several companies Tuesday for allegedly selling products with the late singer's name without getting their permission. Ty Stalnaker sent in the following review of Stone Temple Pilots' show in Sunrise, Florida: Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington played the BB&T Center last night. While possibly an over-ambitious location, the band was eager to please. Naturally, seeing how Bennington would fit was where most of the intrigue was, and for most of the material he was up to the task. His voice and style seems best for loud and fast songs, like Vasoline and the new Out of Time. Wicked Garden seemed to bring out the strongest of his performances. Softer and more mid-tempo territory like Sour Girl was a bit more uneven. The DeLeo brothers and Eric Kretz churned out the mostly-familiar music, but the other interesting addition was a handful of “new” old songs, Pop's Love Suicide and Church on Tuesday among them. Bennington's voice fit Pop's Love Suicide almost as smoothly as the original recording, and Church on Tuesday was a delight to hear, featuring an additional guitar solo on the outro.

EXCLUSIVE: LISTEN TO CLIPS OF TWO UNRELEASED SCOTT WEILAND SONGS FROM THE 90'S Ashley Hamilton was kind enough to send me two songs that prominently feature Scott Weiland on vocals,”Circles” and “Massive (Heart Attack)”. The tune is an upbeat sounding, eccentric yet dark rocker that was recorded as a track for the first Wondergirls album, an effort that went unreleased due to legal matters. The band featured, among others, Hamilton, Weiland, Troy Van Leeuwan of Queens of the Stone Age and A Perfect Circle, and Shannon Leto of Thirty Seconds to Mars (predating that band). Fans of STP may recognize the chorus, which was reused as a part of “Dumb Love”, the opening track of 2001's Shangri-La Dee Da. “Massive (Heart Attack)” has been of great STP fan interest due to Scott Weiland's lead vocals and its “My Bloody Valentine” feel, according to the band. The assessment seems to be accurate. The tune has a post punk feel and its yet another STP related outtake which can go down as a classic, alongside tunes like “About a Fool” and “Only Dying”. The band will most likely officially release the two songs in their entirety in the future, but here's two thirty second samples to hold you over until then.

When all today's isms have become yesterday's ancient philosophy, there will still be reactionaries and there will still be revolutionaries. No amount of rationalization can avoid the moment of choice each of us brings to our situation here on the planet. I still believe in the fundamental injustice of the profit system and do not accept the proposition there will be rich and poor for all eternity.
